Life gave us an unexpected curveball over the last few weeks.
This meant that we had to go to South Africa to sort out a few things.
We have not been back to South Africa for 11 years so we did not really know what to expect with Hermione.
We knew that there were going to be challenges that we were going to navigate, long flights, connections, being in unfamiliar places, sensory overload, being around βstrangers β, lots of travelling around are just a few to mention.
Hermione faced these challenges with bravery and confidence. We had a few hiccups, but we expected those because we know that she is not always able to tell how how she is feeling with her limited vocabulary, but we overcame those . π€£
Strangers quickly became new people who she knows she can trust, and who love her very much. She got to meet some of her wider family Uncles, Aunts, cousins, great Uncles and Great Aunts for the first time.
Also this was a very stressful time for us, we had a special time being together with our Family and Friends.
This also meant the Hermione was able to have different experiences, the ones we promised we would give her, making memories for a lifetime and being able to live her best life.
This was also the opportunity to develop new skills and increase her language, so although she may keep me awake at night running though our entire familyβs names a hundred times over, I have the peace of mind that they meant something to her, they are also her safe space and the keepers of her faith who she will forever hold close to her heart.
The lesson of this, take those adventures when you can, make those memories to last a lifetime and always remember that special family and friends no matter how far away they are are always the ones who are the ones who love you more than you know.
