Building on past success one of our cadets took up the challenge of TenTors as part of the Wing team. Over 2 days they faced the challenge of navigating in wild country, racing to reach checkpoints and cross the finish line before the time limit. The team finished well within the time limit and there were lots of exhausted smiles. The squadron is proud of your accomplishments and looks forward to supporting you in your next endeavour. .adventure.training

Yesterday Cadets and staff from the squadron attended the St.George’s parade in Coleford. The Squadron band lead the parade upto Angus Buchanan Memorial Park. The day was filled with hosting many visitors to our stand with the music taster sessions and CPR demos going down well with many of the young visitors. Throughout the day the squadron managed to raise £50 for the PoTS UK charity. This was the chosen charity of the organisers for this year’s fundraiser.

This weekend 6 cadets from the squadron gave their time to complete the challenge of their Bronze DofE Expedition. They were joined by a team of 4 from 181 (City of Gloucester) Squadron. The weekend challenged their teamwork, navigation, camp skills and cooking. I’m glad to say they all succeeded in this endeavour. They have all gone home and will be I’m sure glad of a well earned rest. They will go away now and create a presentation which will complete the Bronze DofE journey. The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) Award is a series of challenges meant to bring cadets out of their comfort zone and push their boundaries. At Bronze level this is made up of 4 areas or sections: Physical, Skill, Volunteering and Expedition. Physical pushes them to develop in a sport or build on existing physical abilities. Skill pushes them to develop in hobbies, learning of an instrument or other life skills. Volunteering gets them to engage within the community and benefit others. Finally the expedition section gets the to test their resolve, teamwork, navigation, cooking and camp craft. The DofE Award is recognised both Nationally and internationally and is a good thing to have on future CVs. It teaches skills for life and memories that will certainly be looked back on for years to come. .adventure.training

Sunday was the Rotary Club Forest of Dean Half Marathon. Cadets and staff from the unit were out supporting and completing our service to the community, running one of the many water stations. The sun was high as was the turnout with over 1000 runners participating. The cadets were a flurry of activity keeping the runners hydrated throughout the day. Lots of good feedback from runners we’ll be back in the Autumn to cheer you all on.
