After a warm week where the dogs couldn’t safely enjoy the field, this evening’s cooler weather felt like a gift.

We headed out for a late session in the pay as you play field, and the dogs were so ready for it.

It’s Luna’s turn to shine in our Field Time Album, and she was in her element. Luna doesn’t just enjoy field time, she radiates happiness when there.

Her silly little games, her playful bursts, her “look at me!” moments… she brings so much light to our time at the field.

Thank you to everyone who donates towards Field Time for our homeless and sanctuary dogs. These sessions mean more than you know.

They get to run, play, explore, and feel free and the dogs absolutely love every second 🐾

🐾 A Little Update on Our Lovely Sadie 🐾

Our special girl Sadie, who is now 13, hasn’t been feeling quite herself this week. She’s been tilting her head and just not acting like her usual sweet, steady self, so she had a visit to the vets.

The vet thinks it may be idiopathic vestibular disease, which is fairly common in older dogs. While she was there, they also tested an angry‑looking growth on her underside (not the very big skin tag), just to make sure it’s nothing sinister.

Sadie is now on steroids and antibiotics, and we’ve got everything crossed that she’ll start feeling brighter very soon. She’s getting all the love, comfort and care she could possibly need and she’s being kept cool while we have hotter than usual weather.

Thank you to everyone who cares about our beautiful sanctuary girl. We’ll keep you updated as she progresses. 💛

What a friendly, fun, tail‑wagging day we had at the Houghton Hall Show. The atmosphere was brilliant, the dogs were happy, and the community spirit was exactly what makes these events so special.

Before we share the winners, we want to reassure everyone that all dogs at the show were completely fine and enjoyed themselves.

The temperature stayed below 22°C for the duration of the event, and we wrapped up long before the day reached its warmest predicted temperature of 26°C. Small but important adjustments made to the schedule as part of our dynamic risk assessment meant we all had a safe and enjoyable show.

We’ve seen a few Facebook comments from concerned people who weren’t at the show, however those who did join us saw exactly what we saw — happy, comfortable dogs having a great time, with plenty of shade, water, paddling pools and even an air conditioned area if they wanted it.

We’ll be sharing more photos and videos like this one so everyone can see the beautiful, calm, cool dogs in the ring.

🌤️ HOUGHTON HALL DOG SHOW – IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR TOMORROW

To keep everyone safe in the warm weather, we’ve made a small change to the schedule.

⏰ NEW START TIME: 10am
We’re bringing the show forward by one hour to avoid the hottest part of the day.

🐾 Key points you need to know:

• First class now starts at 10am
• No registration queue — we use a token system
• You’ll be handed a token as you enter the ring for each class you join
• No need to arrive before 10am
• If temperatures rise higher than expected, later classes may be cancelled
• We expect to finish the main classes before temperatures exceed 23°C

💛 Safety First
Our volunteers will be keeping an eye on both dogs and humans.
Anyone looking too warm may be guided to a cooling area for shade and a drink.

Updates will be posted on the Houghton Hall Park page:

🐾📣IMPORTANT UPDATE CONCERNING HHP DOG SHOW 2026📣🐾

Due to the heatwave hitting England over the Bank Holiday weekend, we have taken the decision to move the Houghton Hall Park Dog Show 2026 forward by one hour to avoid the hotter temperatures on Saturday afternoon. After taking advice from fellow event organisers and dog carers, we have also made the decision that should the temperate exceed 23 degrees Celsius, the event will be disbanded.

Please see a revised timetable of classes below - asterisked classes may be cancelled if the temperature increases too much. Registration will still open at 10am, with the first class also taking place at this time. So if you would like to enter your dog into Cheeky Chappie, please arrive at 10am sharp. The Doggy Dash will be closed if the temperate exceeds 22 degrees Celsius.

We would like to reassure all dog owners that measures will be in place to help keep dogs cool and comfortable throughout the event. Hydration stations, wet cloths, and shaded areas will be available, and trained doggy first aiders will be on site.

We kindly ask all owners to consider their dog’s individual needs and how they cope with heat before deciding to attend. The welfare of the dogs remains our highest priority. Should any adjustments to the event be required due to the weather, updates will be shared on our social media pages.

Best wishes,
The HHP Team

🐾 HANK IS READY FOR HIS HAPPILY EVER AFTER 🐾

Our beautiful boy Hank, just 2 years old, is searching for the kind of forever home every dog deserves — one filled with patience, gentleness and love.

Hank still has a little limp and sometimes needs encouragement to use his back leg, but it never stops him joining in with the lurchers for playtime. His spirit is bright, his tail is hopeful, and his heart is enormous.

What makes Hank truly special is his softness.
He wants to please. He tries so hard.
He blossoms with kind voices and gentle hands.

If someone speaks too harshly, he shrinks away. Sometimes, if he thinks he might be hurt, he cries out before anything even happens. That tells us everything we need to know about the life he had before being abandoned at a vets with a broken hip.

But that chapter is over and we are determined that the next one will be written with kindness.

Hank deserves a family who will show him that the world can be safe, predictable and full of love. A family who will help him grow in confidence and celebrate every little milestone with him.

He can live happily with other dogs and gentle children — but not with cats.

If you feel your home might be the one Hank has been waiting for, please reach out. Meeting him in person is all it takes to fall in love.

Little Romy has been getting braver on her walks but still has so much to see. Today she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw a man on a bicycle.

She is beginning to ‘get it’ and walks with a loose lead and beside me for most of the time - so still a bit more work needed but definitely lots of progress after just 1 week.
