Aspire NI Aspire exists to work with children in Northern Ireland in poverty to help close the educational attainment gap that exists between rich and poor.

The Company is established to help close the educational attainment gap by partnering with schools and relevant agencies to:

1.Provide relationships that enable young people to recognise their skills and full potential.
2.Provide facilitators to encourage young people in education and help them to take ownership of their own education.
3.Help those from lower income families by providing free tuition services
4.Help young people to learn outside of the classroom by providing fun-based educational activities outside of school hours.
5.Give young people the opportunity to explore faith.

Education opens doors. It gives young people choices.

Without the right support, too many are pushed down a particular route simply because the resources weren’t there. We want every young person in Belfast to have a fair chance at academic success and the freedom to choose their own path.

Some areas of Belfast have among the highest rates of child poverty in Northern Ireland. So that’s where we focus much of our work.

Business leaders, you can help widen those choices.

Last year, Education Minister Paul Givan warned that “nearly three in 10 pupils are not achieving at the expected levels” in literacy and numeracy by the end of primary school.

He also pointed out that young people from the most disadvantaged backgrounds are likely to feel the impact of pandemic disruption the longest.

It’s clear that challenges for disadvantaged young people start early and grow as they get older.

That’s why we work with young people from primary school right up to school leaving age.

Starting young means we can step in early, before gaps have a chance to widen.

Aaron, we’re so proud of you.

Through the toughest years of his life, Aaron kept going.

He passed his GCSEs, he’s now studying sports science and he’s built friendships that will last a lifetime.

That’s down to his strength, his hard work and a family who carried each other through the hardest of times. We just got to walk alongside him.

Here’s his story, in his own words.

The days are getting a little colder and the darker evenings are drawing in so today we’re taking a moment to look back on a brilliant summer.

Spending so much time with Aspire young people is a privilege and we loved every minute.

Thank you to our partners, volunteers and supporters for making it happen.

Teachers want every pupil to thrive. But in a class of 25, time is always stretched.

25 is the average primary class size in Northern Ireland.

Resources are tight and every pupil’s needs are different.

Young people facing disadvantage often benefit most from extra, focused attention.

Through Aspire Sessions, we deliver small-group tuition in 29 schools across Belfast, Craigavon, Banbridge, Lurgan and Portadown.
