MNDA South Lancs Branch

Directions Website

MNDA South Lancs Branch MND is an incurable condition that paralyses the muscles leaving people unable to do everyday things the rest of us take for granted.

The South Lancs Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association has the sole aim of serving all people affected by Motor Neurone Disease living in St Helens, Wigan & Leigh, Warrington, Runcorn, Burscough and Cronton. Walking talking and swallowing become virtually impossible, yet the mind and senses remain intact. Specific Branch Objectives
- Provide support for people affected by MND
- Raise money to help people affected by MND
- Raise awareness about MND within St Helens, Wigan, Leigh, Warrington, Halton, Cronton, Whiston, to Burscough in the north.
- Influence policy and decision-makers within St Helens, Wigan, Leigh, Warrington, Halton, Cronton, Whiston, Skelmersdale to Burscough in the north, to the benefit of people affected by MND
- We liaise with health and social care professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists and the medical profession. We normally meet every third Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm at the Holiday Inn, Haydock WA12 0JG but at the current time during Covid-19 we have moved our meetings online to Zoom where you can join by clicking the following link https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84043008455?pwd=MGhTb2UvbFluYTFPVjZoSW4vdmUvUT09. Our Branch is aiming to hold regular support meetings for people living with MND and their carers. These will provide an opportunity to meet with other people living with the disease, and to share experiences and ideas. Fundraising and raising awareness are also very important aspects of Branch activities, and we organise several events throughout the year which are well supported. South Lancs Branch is completely run by volunteers. We are always interested in hearing from people who can help with events or who want to get involved with running the Branch. Thank you to everyone who joined us at our branch meeting tonight despite the awful weather. It was nice to reflect back upon Sir Kevin Sinfield coming through our patch and to thank all our branch members and supporters for their support for this. It was lovely to hear your individual stories.

We were also really pleased to be presented with this cheque.for £3000 from Ellesmere Golf Club . We had a lovely day there when they had a MND charity golf day in September. What a great amount was raised. Thank you to everyone who was involved in the day. 🧡🧡

A final reminder that our monthly branch meeting is tomorrow, Wednesday 21st October at the usual time of 7:30 pm at our usual venue - Blackbrook rugby and recreational club. Everyone is welcome. So please join us for a cuppa and biscuits and a friendly chat.

We will be reflecting upon our support of Sir Kevin Sinfield as he ran through our patch as part of his epic 7in7 Grand Finale.

We will be joined by representative from Ellesmere Golf club who ran an MND charity golf day in September. They will be presenting us with a cheque.

We will be having a Christmas raffle and so if you have anything to donate to that, please bring it along

We’re looking forward to seeing you all again after our break in September
