Culcheth Linear Park - Full of Fascinating Facts and Fresh Air

Our latest walk at Culcheth Linear Park turned into a fascinating, fact-filled feast for the mind thanks to our special guide, Andy, from The Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust.

As the group meandered along the park's pathways, Andy shared his extensive knowledge of the plants, trees and wildlife that thrive within this beautiful green space. His enthusiasm and expertise brought the natural environment to life, helping walkers discover more about the rich variety of flora and fauna right on their doorstep.

Participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience, with one walker describing it as “a lovely walk,” while another commented that “the guide provided loads of information about the flora and fauna in the park.”

Others praised Andy’s knowledge and passion, saying, “It was really interesting,” and “He was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic.”

Another participant summed up the morning perfectly, describing it as “an excellent walk this morning with a brilliant expert.”

The walk was not only a great opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, gentle exercise and good company, but also a chance to learn more about the natural environment that makes Culcheth Linear Park such a special place.

A big thank you to Andy and The Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust for helping to make the walk such an informative and enjoyable experience.

Culcheth Linear Park - We’re celebrating Volunteers’ Week

Volunteers’ Week is a time to recognise and celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy and passion to support communities across the country. Here at Culcheth Linear Park we are proud to shine a spotlight on the dedicated volunteers who help keep our special green space thriving for everyone to enjoy.

Throughout the year, volunteers play a vital role in maintaining and improving the park. From litter picking and path maintenance to habitat conservation and planting projects, their hard work helps preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of the park. The efforts of our volunteers ensure that both people and wildlife continue to benefit from this much-loved community space.

Thanks to every volunteer who has contributed to the park over the years. Your time, effort and passion are deeply appreciated, and the positive impact of your work can be seen right across the park.

If you are interested in getting involved - then why not join us. Volunteering is a rewarding way to meet new people, stay active, learn new skills, and help care for one of our community’s most valuable natural spaces. Every helping hand makes a huge difference.

Culcheth Linear Park - volunteers continue to look after our green space

Our May volunteer working party took place this week and, once again, it was fantastic to get out in the fresh air, meet other local volunteers and help support the park and the nature and wildlife that thrive there.

Jobs undertaken included more digging out of the pond, splitting and spreading the wild garlic, litter picking, clearing out old papers and rubbish from the Ranger Cabin and general maintenance and repairs.

The volunteer group contributed an amazing 24 man-hours, including support from a new volunteer — thank you to everyone involved!

The pond digging project is also nearing completion for now, which is a fantastic achievement by the team and will provide an important habitat for wildlife.

Every bit of help makes a difference and helps keep Culcheth Linear Park a wonderful place for people, nature and wildlife to thrive.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support and care for our valuable green space.

SAVE OUR GREEN SPACE

Please help look after our green spaces like Culcheth Linear Park by taking part in the consultation for the Warrington Local Plan.

You’ve only got until 5pm on Monday 1 June 2026 to get involved.

The Culcheth & Glazebury Residents Association have put together some really useful information and guidance to help you take part - available from the link below.

Some background as to why it’s important and how it could affect Culcheth Linear Park.

Warrington Borough Council is updating its Local Plan that decides where new homes, jobs, roads, schools, health facilities and green spaces will be. The first stage is the Scoping Consultation and where you have the most influence - your chance to shape what the plan must consider before any development sites or policies are written.

Developers have already surveyed areas of green belt in Culcheth, including land adjacent to Culcheth Linear Park, for potentially 300-400 additional homes.

Any development around Culcheth Linear Park would affect this vital green space that we all value and the nature and wildlife which thrive there.

Have your say - please take part in the consultation and tell the council what matters to you, including protecting our green space and how any further development will affect you and our community.

We need to act now - all views to be submitted before 5pm on Monday 1 June 2026.
