Kirkley Pocket Park Group was set up in March 2022 to help people clean up open spaces within Kirkley. The vision of the Community.

We are grateful for the generous financial support from Lowestoft Town Council. Kirkley will be a safe, vibrant and inspirational place to live, with improvements to green or open spaces influenced and led by a well connected and resourced community

🌱 Would you join our new weekly w**ding team?

After taking part in Litter Free Lowestoft week, we discovered just how much difference a couple of hours removing w**ds can make — and we actually really enjoyed it!

So Kirkley Pocket Park Group is thinking about starting a weekly one-hour w**ding session, tackling a different little area of Kirkley at a time.

Before we set a regular day and time, we’d love to know how many people might genuinely be interested in joining us.

If you think you’d come along — even if you couldn’t make it every week — please comment YES below. 🌱

If we get enough interest, we’ll then ask everyone which day and time would suit them best.

No gardening expertise needed — just an hour to spare and a willingness to help us put the love back into Kirkley. ❤️

🌱 Day Three of Litter Free Lowestoft Week — and Day Two for Kirkley Pocket Park Group! 🌱

While others have been busy tackling the litter, we’ve been tackling something slightly different… WEEDS! 🌿😂

Unfortunately, there were only two of us today — the lovely Dorothy and me — and there were far too many w**ds for two people to conquer in a couple of hours. But we certainly gave it a good go, and what a difference it made!

It got me thinking…

I absolutely love seeing how much cleaner and tidier an area looks once the w**ds have disappeared, so I thought: why not start a little w**ding team under the umbrella of Kirkley Pocket Park Group?

And, as anyone who knows me will tell you, I don’t tend to start small! 😂

🌿 Our first challenge? Clifton Road car park.

It’s a BIG job, but I genuinely think we could make a huge difference if we tackled it bit by bit, one section at a time. It certainly won’t happen overnight, but that’s part of the fun — watching the transformation as we go.

We already have our regular Pocket Park volunteers doing a fantastic job around Kirkley, but I’d love to find a few more people who might enjoy joining a dedicated w**ding and tidy-up team.

You don’t need to commit every week or spend hours doing it. Even if you could spare an hour occasionally, it all helps. There’s something strangely therapeutic about pulling w**ds — and you get to see the results straight away! 🌱💪

So, if you fancy helping us make some of those slightly unloved corners of Kirkley look loved again, please get in touch. The more hands we have, the bigger the difference we can make. ❤️

Really enjoyed our Monday morning work party today — although it was a little different from our usual flowerbed w**ding! 🌿😊

This morning we joined forces with the lovely Litter Free Lowestoft team. While they tackled the litter, we declared war on those pesky w**ds! 😂🌱

What a difference a couple of hours can make. It was so satisfying seeing the area looking cleaner, tidier and much more loved. ❤️

In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much that we’re doing it all again on Wednesday! This time, while the Kirkley People’s Forum team are out litter picking, we’ll be following along and tackling the w**ds.

Litter-free AND w**d-free — that sounds pretty good to us! 🙌

What a difference a little teamwork makes! 🌿

One of our current projects is the old railway path between Clifton Road car park and Belvedere Road car park.

Our volunteers meet every Sunday from 4pm to 5pm to continue tidying the path and making it a more attractive place for everyone to enjoy.

We absolutely love a good before-and-after photo — and this one certainly shows what can be achieved! 💚

Would you like to join us? It’s great fun, good company and certainly cheaper than going to the gym! 😂 No experience is needed, and all equipment is provided.

And don’t forget our Monday Clean-Up, when we’ll be joining forces with Litter Free Lowestoft to tidy the area behind Kirkley Mill Surgery.

🌿 LITTER OUT, WEEDS OUT! 🌿

For one week only—and as a bit of a trial—the Kirkley Pocket Park Group is joining forces with Litter Free Lowestoft for The Great Lowestoft Litter Pick.

As their wonderful volunteers clear the litter, we’ll be following behind to tackle all those w**ds growing where they most definitely don’t belong!

We have chosen the entrance to Kirkley Mill Surgery on Economy Road, opposite Infinity Healing Hands and Crystal Roo. I’ve included a few photographs so you can see the area we’ll be transforming.

If, like me, you hate litter—but possibly hate w**ds in the wrong place even more—please come and join us!

Monday morning means it’s time for the usual Kirkley Pocket Park Group get-together.

The weather plays such a big part in what we do. A couple of heavy rain showers followed by beautiful sunshine certainly puts a big smile on every w**d that dares to pop its little head up!

As a result, much of today’s session was spent tackling yet more w**ds, not only in the flowerbeds but also along the pathway by the Clifton Road car park.

So, what did we get up to today? We started the morning at the Cleveland Road Mural & Garden, carrying out some much-needed w**ding before moving on to our newest project at Kirkley Mill.

Also a big shout out to Tom to thank him for tackling one of the long borders all on his own, it kept him very quiet.😂

Every little bit of work helps to keep these areas looking attractive and welcoming for everyone to enjoy. 🌿🌸
