Kirkley Pocket Parks

Kirkley Pocket Parks Kirkley Pocket Park Group was set up in March 2022 to help people clean up open spaces within Kirkley. The vision of the Community.

We are grateful for the generous financial support from Lowestoft Town Council. Kirkley will be a safe, vibrant and inspirational place to live, with improvements to green or open spaces influenced and led by a well connected and resourced community

🌸 A little Monday magic from Kirkley Pocket Parks! 🌿

We spent a lovely couple of hours on Monday morning at our latest project at Kirkley Mill — tidying up, pruning, and tackling those pesky pavement weeds 💪✨

The best part? Wandering round to the front and seeing all the spring plants in full bloom — it honestly gave us such a lift! 🌼🌷

And to top it all off, we had two lovely people stop to tell us how great it’s looking… which made it all the more worthwhile 😊

💚 Fancy getting involved?
We’re always on the lookout for more helping hands — whether you can spare an hour or a morning, every little bit makes a big difference. No experience needed, just a willingness to get stuck in!

Drop us a message and come and join us at our next session — we’d love to have you 🌿

✨ Guess what the Kirkley Pocket Park Group got up to this Monday? ✨🌿

We rolled up our sleeves and gave Kirkley a little spring sparkle! 💪🧽

The large planters (with their gorgeous signage) along the seafront, Waterloo Road and Claremont Road were well overdue a good scrub — so that’s exactly what they got!

It’s amazing what a bit of elbow grease can do…

Take a look at the before and after photos and see the transformation for yourself! 👀👇

💔 A Much Sadder Update…

Sadly, we’ve discovered that the large pink planter at the end of Waterloo Road — the one with the beautiful sign — has been deliberately gouged with a knife.

It’s difficult to explain how upsetting this is for the volunteers of the Kirkley Pocket Park Group. Every planter, every sign, every bit of colour you see has been created and cared for by people giving their time freely because they love Kirkley.

We don’t do this for recognition. We do it because we want our area to look welcoming, cheerful and cared for.

It’s hard to understand why anyone would choose to damage something that’s there purely to brighten the community.

We’ll try to repair it, of course — we always do. 💚

But if anyone knows anything, or if you see damage happening in future, please let us know. Looking after Kirkley is something we can all be part of.

Let’s keep putting the love back into Kirkley.

🌼 Spring is definitely on its way in Kirkley! 🌼

The Kirkley Pocket Park Group were out at Kirkley Mill Surgery today, armed with shovels, enthusiasm and a healthy amount of p*e shingle! 😄

We spent the morning (and a good chunk of the afternoon!) topping up the two large beds we created — all in the noble battle against those ever-optimistic weeds.

But the real highlight?

Bright yellow crocuses were popping their cheerful little heads up, the tree in the centre is budding beautifully, and even the roses are starting to wake up and show off. 🌿🌹

It’s safe to say… winter is loosening its grip!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and got stuck in today — you’re absolute stars ⭐

And as always, if you fancy joining our friendly band of volunteers, just drop us a private message and we’ll happily rope you in!

Let’s keep putting the love back into Kirkley 💚

🌳 The Kirkley Pocket Park Group’s latest edition 🌳
We’re delighted to share that the KPPG volunteers have planted a beautiful Sorbus ‘Joseph Rock’ to bring even more colour and interest to their latest project at the Kirkley Mill Health Centre.

✨ Why they chose this tree:
• Gorgeous seasonal colour – green spring leaves that turn red, orange and purple in autumn
• Creamy-white spring flowers that attract bees and pollinators
• Striking yellow berries in autumn that really brighten the space
• A tidy, upright shape that fits perfectly into smaller community areas
• Offers something lovely to enjoy all year round

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our efforts to put the love back into Kirkley.
We hope you enjoy watching this little beauty grow! 🌿💛

Are you free for a couple of hours on Monday 10 November? If the weather is kind, we’re looking for volunteers to help us move the project forward behind Kirkley Mill Surgery.

We have three tonne bags of decorative stone ready to be laid, and we need a few strong hands for shovelling and wheelbarrowing. We’ll be starting at 11 am, and the stones only need to be moved a short distance to the rear of the building near the car park.

If you can spare some time, please send us a private message for more info. Your help will make a real difference as the Kirkley Pocket Park Group continues putting the love back into Kirkley. 🌿✨ See the area we need help with plus the work we have already completed.

Yesterday we kicked off our newest community project: giving the land around Kirkley Mill Surgery some much-needed love! 💚

Who knew the path at the back was twice the size?😃

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be:
🗑️ Clearing away rubbish
✂️ Tidying and trimming back the planting already in place
🌸 Adding lots of fresh new plants front and back to really brighten things up!

But here’s the best bit 👉 you can get involved! We’re always on the lookout for volunteers to join the fun.

⏰ Usual sessions: a couple of hours on Monday mornings.
🌿 Next week only: we’ll be working all day Monday AND Wednesday to dig out the beds and get things really moving.

If you fancy rolling up your sleeves, meeting some lovely people, and helping us transform this space, just drop us a private message. 💌

Let’s make Kirkley bloom together! 🌼💪

⚓️✨Shout-out to our chairman, Stewart! ✨⚓️

Not only does Stew work tirelessly with the Kirkley Pocket Park group, but every Wednesday you’ll also find him volunteering aboard the historic Mincarlo fishing trawler. With his engineering know-how, he helps keep the engines in top shape AND shares his knowledge as a tour guide, bringing the ship’s history to life for visitors. 👨‍🔧🚢

Today was a special day – the Mincarlo was moved from her mooring to spend the winter in dry dock for essential work before she’s back again next year. And who was right there at the bow, grinning from ear to ear? None other than our very own Stew! 😄

Well done Stew – you’re a star volunteer, and it’s clear you loved every minute of it! 🌟

🌱✨ Pocket Park Crew in Action! ✨🌱

This Monday our awesome Kirkley Pocket Park team got busy giving the planters along Lorne Park Road and Richmond Place a good tidy-up. Weeds beware – nothing makes a street look unloved faster than you popping up where you don’t belong! 💪🌿

We spent a couple of sunny hours together, and the weather was just perfect. A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came along – you make such a difference. ❤️

👉 Fancy joining in? We meet every Monday from 10:30am to 12:30pm, and we’d love more helping hands to keep Putting the Love Back into Kirkley. Just drop us a private message, and we’ll be in touch!

And don’t forget 📅: Our AGM is happening on 25th September, 11:30am at the Kirkley Centre – come along and be part of the conversation!

🚧 Can you help us restore the planter on Lorne Park Road? 🌱

Back in July, one of the brick planters in Lorne Park Road was damaged by a car. Suffolk County Council say they won’t rebuild it—only leave it with red plastic barriers, which has sadly put off our volunteers from maintaining the area.

We’d love to get this repaired and are seeking funding through our County Councillor, but we need someone with the skills to help us rebuild it.

👉 If you’re a local tradesperson, business, or community member who could lend a hand—or if you know someone who might—please get in touch or share this post. Let’s bring this space back to life for the community! 💚
