A great sadness. A lovely lady who worked hard for our Twinning.

It is with great sadness that Lowestoft Town Council announces the sudden passing of Councillor Wendy Brooks.

Wendy was first elected to the Town Council in May 2021 and served the Gunton Ward of the Town as well as being actively and progressively involved in many of the Council’s committees and projects.

The Mayor of Lowestoft, Councillor Nasima Begum, expressing deep sadness at the loss of Councillor Brooks said ‘being a councillor is not always easy. It takes commitment, resilience and a willingness to give up your own time for the benefit of others and Wendy certainly did that. Wendy gave her time, energy and experience to serving the people of Lowestoft and making a difference to the town she cared about’.

The Town Council has sent its deepest condolences to Wendy’s family. If any would like to send their own condolences, these can be submitted to the Town Clerk who will collate and share in confidence with Wendy’s family.

The Town Council and Lowestoft has lost someone who gave freely of their time and committed to making our town the best it could be and her contributions will not be forgotten.

Our next Film Night will be at 7.30 on 17 July at the Movie Makers Theatre, Sparrows Nest Gardens, Whapload Road.
Our well regarded film is "400 Coups". The film is in French with English subtitles, so you can practise your French while watching an excellent film. We also have the whole subtitle on the screen!We ask for £5 donation.

Members of The Lowestoft and Plaisir Twinning Association have just returned from a visit to their twinned town of Plaisir, near Paris and I should be grateful if you could include the following details of the visit in the Lowestoft Journal. I will send 2 photos separately.
21 members of the Lowestoft and Plaisir Twinning Association have just returned from a visit to their twinned town of Plaisir, near Paris. During the visit friendships were renewed and new ones formed.

Visits were made to the 17th century Chateau de Breteuil with a picnic in the vast grounds. The chateau contains some 50 wax figures (one of Queen Marie Antoinette) which really brought the rooms to life. Another day was spent in Versailles and starting from the Place d'Armes in front of the Palace the group were able to experience real French life by visiting the Versailles Flower Market,
Notre Dame Market, the Rue de la Paroisse and the Salle du Jeu de Paume - a "real tennis" court which was the Royal Sports Hall used by Louis XIV and court members. In view of the heat a visit to the Palace gardens was left to another day.

A five course lunch with a cabaret was provided for visitors and hosts at the wonderful Auberge of the Femme du Bout des Pres followed later in the day with meeting the new Mayor of Plaisir, Sandrine Carneiro other formalities and exchanges of gifts with tea and cakes.

In the evening an entertaining show was put on in the Theatre Robert Manuel by his daughter, Marie-Silvia Manuel.

The final free day was spent with hosts families and various visits were made including to Paris, the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, museums, an additional chateau or simply relaxing.

We thank our hosts for their excellent hospitality and look forward to welcoming them in Lowestoft next July.

Hi, Our next event; QUIZ NIGHT

Our Quiz is on 27 June at the Seagull Theatre Studio 3. Start time 7.30 as normal Please use door on left of the front of the building which will be open. Follow stairs up and studio 3 will be on the left at top of stairs. Anyone who cannot do stairs ring Ange, on 07778216991 and she will meet you to take you up in the lift. On road parking is available but maybe a little walk.
Everyone welcome. Bring a drink and glasses if you like. Coffee and nibbles available. Teams of four recommended. Entry £2.50 per person. Prizes for winners.
It would be helpful if you could let us know if you are coming, nearer the time.
