Save the Woman

Save the Woman "To educate a woman is to educate a nation"
Save The Woman is led organisation in England and Wales. It expanded to Middlesbrough in 2015.

Save the Woman's priority is to support in a way that is beneficial to the & at large. Save The Woman started as the brainchild of Olalekan Odedeyi, as a result of his involvement in Millennium Development Advocacy training while serving as a member of National Youth Service Corps. Olalekan developed an interest in MDG Goal 3, which seeks to promote gender equality

and empower women. He established contact with the Welfare Department within the Nigerian prisons service to conduct a thorough needs assessment. It was revealed that being put in prison in Nigeria is like a bomb exploding in the women’s lives. The social consequences for these women mean that on release they are not welcome in society, leaving them with nowhere to go, no employment, no relationships and no skills to move forward. This causes them to re-offend meaning the women often never leave prison permanently, because once they’re in the system, there are no rehabilitation programmes and they become trapped in a vicious cycle. We decided to build the women’s work skills through piloting the production of chalk in prisons. In November 2018, Save The Woman supported the launch of the African and African Caribbean Network at Teesside University. The theme of the launch event was African Renaissance. The keynote address was given by IDPAD Coalition UK. Save The Woman based in Middlesbrough is part of the Coalition of African people and African-led organisations that came together to mark and raise awareness about the UN International Decade for People of African Descent (IDPAD) 2015 – 2024. The Decade has 3 pillars: Recognition, Justice and Development. It is under the Justice pillar that the concerns of over-representation of Black African & African-Caribbean children in the care system reached Save the Woman’s attention. Save The Woman will use the UN International Decade for People of African Descent as a catalyst to drive positive change in the lives of women and children affected by the prison system.

On Day Eight of the 21 Days Against Racism, we celebrate International Women's Day and define Self-Repair, an important aspect of Restorative Justice. Racism is evil, it is pernicious. It eats at our self-esteem. We must be intentional about repairing the damage. Racism Detox

Let us look at our journey and celebrate the women who have inspired us, not forgetting to celebrate ourselves and the little victories we have had in this battle against oppression and injustice. Which women have inspired you on your journey?

Greetings!

On Day Four of the 21 Days Against Racism, we move to the positive with a definition of Afriphilia. Matters, Afriphilia was popularised in IDPAD Coalition UK by Elder Shango, who we lost last year. Ancestor Shango Baku will be cheering us on as we repair the damage caused by Afriphobia, Structural, Systemic and Institutional Racism. Muhammad Ali said:

An estimate *3.8 million people have unmet legal needs.*

We wonder whether NMC's privately contracted Barristers works for free.

Should NMC's privately contracted Barristers be compelled to do pro bono representation for nurses given the fact that she is paid by a registrants funded institution.?
More needs to be done to have more transparency and [more] use of plain English, which *lawyers do not like* because it justifies them *charging for the opaque language they use.’*

A contempt for access to justice has no place in legal profession, *NMC privately contracted Barristers* ought to know better.

"'Big missed opportunity': *Law professor calls for mandatory pro bono for firms* receiving government money | Law Gazette"

Firms doing a lot of government work should expect to give something back, law professor tells Commons justice committee.
