Foundation for Change is a London based charity that supports individuals in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction to permanently exit the treatment system, have better futures and fulfil their potential. Dependency on drugs or alcohol affects hundreds of thousands of people each year and it is becoming increasingly more common for the life of someone close to us to be touched by it. Our missio

n at FfC is to change the way addiction - and other symptoms of complex disadvantage - are addressed at individual and systemic levels through the transformative power of education.

At Foundation for Change, we believe knowledge is power. Many of the people who come to us have had difficult experiences of education in the past and arrive feeling anxious about being back in a learning environment. This acts as a significant barrier to education, perpetuating exclusion and preventing growth.

We work from the belief that everyone is capable of learning. That’s why our courses are free to access, taught in small supportive groups, and designed in ways that feel engaging rather than alienating or academic.

We don’t believe education should make people feel excluded. We believe it should help people feel confident, reignite their innate curiosity and be excited to continue learning long after our courses finish. This happens through the crucial shift in identity we see time and again on our courses - from people feeling unable to learn to people not only knowing that they can, but that they want to continue learning long into their futures.

Whilst we rely on funding to keep our courses free for people in recovery from addiction, we also value when funders truly champion our work and recognise our unique approach to recovery.

We were delighted when one of our funders described our work as supporting people in real depth. This reflects one of our core values and is one of the reasons we deliberately work with smaller groups of people. This creates space for meaningful learning, reflection and lasting change - something we are proud to provide and believe people in recovery both need and deserve.

Keeping our courses free is vital. If you’d like to help us reach more people, please visit our website via the link in our bio to make a monthly or one-off donation.

In the first week of our Feminism for Change course, we dive into herstory - not history.

This gives our trainees the space to explore the struggles, resistance, and lived experiences of women who came before them, while questioning how women’s stories have been shaped, silenced, or overlooked over time.

It’s a powerful starting point, creating a sense of connection, solidarity, and women coming together as part of an ongoing resistance.

When we talk about breaking cycles of trauma, we’re also talking about families, about children, and about their futures.

Many of our graduates have experienced different forms of trauma, but through their healing, which happens on our courses, we see something powerful shift.

Our graduates often tell us that as they begin to heal, their relationships with their children become stronger and more connected

This is how change happens, not just for one person, but for generations.

If you believe in this kind of change, support our work and help more families access it. Donate today on our website via the link in our bio.

At our recent panel event, three of our incredible graduates shared how our courses didn’t just change their lives, they changed the way they show up for their families and children.
Our graduates spoke with such honesty and resilience. They even got a standing ovation at the end.

We are excited to welcome a new group of women on our Feminism for Change course this week.

The word feminism often carries a range of assumptions and misconceptions. It can be challenging to confront the reality that patriarchal structures still shape everyday life.

Our Feminism for Change course creates a space for women to explore and critically engage with feminist theory and women’s herstories, connecting these ideas to their own lived experiences within a patriarchal society. While this process can feel uncomfortable at times, within a safe, women-only environment it can also be deeply empowering, enabling women to release shame and stigma that were never theirs to carry, and see their experiences through a new, more compassionate lens.

This process takes real bravery and resilience, and we’re proud to stand alongside the women who step into it.
