We started by listening. Now, we’re beginning to explore solutions together.
Our recent visits across Kandara have been about understanding the women, their experiences, their strengths and the challenges they face, because meaningful change has to start with listening to the community itself.
And yesterday, our volunteers, including our CEO, returned to spend time with some of the incredible women weavers in Kandara.
These women have a skill. They create beautiful handmade baskets, carrying knowledge and craftsmanship that has been passed down and developed within their community.
But having a skill is one thing. Being able to turn that skill into a sustainable source of income is another.
One of the challenges they shared with us is access to the market. They can make the baskets, but finding sustainable ways to sell them and generate consistent income remains a challenge.
So rather than simply telling them what to do, we are working alongside them to explore solutions.
How can we help take what they already have, their skills, their creativity and their products, and develop practical ways to connect them to opportunities and markets?
This is what Project Radiance is about.
It is about moving beyond short-term support and investing in solutions that have the potential to change the trajectory of women’s lives, their children’s lives and the generations that follow.
The women of Kandara don’t need us to arrive with all the answers.
They have ideas. They have skills. They understand their community.
What they need is the opportunity, support, knowledge, confidence and connections to take those strengths further.
And that is where partnership becomes so important.
We cannot do this alone.
We are listening. We are learning. We are working alongside the community and, together, beginning to turn challenges into possibilities.
Because empowerment isn’t about doing things for women.
It’s about creating the conditions for women to build, lead, earn and shape their own futures.
