This Sukkot, join JNF UK for a special journey to Israel’s north 🇮🇱

Spend the day visiting communities along Israel’s northern border, meeting local residents and hearing first-hand about the challenges they have faced, their return home and restoring everyday life.

The day will include a visit to Kibbutz Hanita, where JNF UK has been supporting residents through a range of initiatives, as well as the opportunity to discover more about the history and significance of this remarkable part of Israel.

A few days on, we are still reflecting on an incredibly moving evening with our cherished colleague and hostage survivor Sagui Dekel Chen.

On Monday, 3,000 people gathered at Kibbutz Nir Oz to hear Sagui perform, for the first time, the songs he composed in his mind during 498 days of captivity in Gaza. At the same time, JNF UK guests in London came together for a special live screening of the concert, sharing in the moment from thousands of miles away.

With no instrument, paper or way to record them, Sagui held onto the melodies and words until he could bring them home. Joined by fellow musicians and special guests Idan Raichel, Marina Maximilian and Hatikvah 6, he performed them on the lawn of Nir Oz - the community he calls home and from where he was abducted on 7 October.

The songs spoke of family, love, longing and the life he dreamed of returning to. Despite the distance, the live screening allowed our London audience to share in a deeply personal and significant moment for Sagui and his community.

Reflecting on the evening, JNF UK CEO Elan Gorji said: “The evening was about more than Sagui’s remarkable story. It was also about Nir Oz and its long road to recovery...Nir Oz is particularly close to us. Sagui is part of the JNF family, and we have supported the kibbutz since the immediate aftermath of the attack and continue to support its recovery.”

As communities across Israel’s south continue their long journey of recovery, JNF UK will continue to stand alongside them.

We were delighted to welcome nearly 100 students from Yavneh College for a special JNF UK volunteering experience at the Chesed Centre in Sderot.

The students spent the day making a meaningful difference by packing food parcels for families in need, building wooden planters and planting flowers to brighten community spaces.

Combining teamwork, hands-on volunteering and community action, the experience gave students the opportunity to support local families while gaining a deeper understanding of the vital work taking place in Sderot.

A huge thank you to the students for their enthusiasm, hard work and commitment to giving back.
