The Cubs had a campfire at Frith Grange today. They played games on the field and sang a few campfire songs while the Damper Bread cooked on the fire.

Chiltern 20 Challenge - Checkpoint Volunteers Request

In three weeks' time, on Saturday 17th October, some of our Scouts will be taking part in the Chiltern 20 Challenge.

I am running checkpoint 5 along the Senior Route and am looking for 2 or 3 volunteers to help with this, please.

We need to leave Whetstone at 06:30 am, collect our supplies from Princes Risborough School and then open and prepare the checkpoint location to receive walkers from 08:30 am.

We are indoors and will probably close around 13:30 depending on how fast this year's teams walk.

At the checkpoint we:
- Check each walker in, both electronically and with a paper record.
- Check that the walkers are fit to continue.
- Supply refreshments and encouragement.
- Provide first aid.
- Retire walkers who are not fit to continue and look after them until they are collected by the event transport team for return to the school.

It is really rewarding seeing the young people along their journey.

If you can help please let me know by Monday 28th September so that I can share our top secret location with you and the event registration details.

If the early start doesn't suit you but you could join us to help with the busy time, between 10:00 and 12:00, that would still be fantastic.

It's harvest festival, and the Church are collecting to support Homeless Action in Barnet.

If you can, please bring any of the following items:
- Men’s winter coats (waterproof best)
- Bath towels
- Saucepans, frying pans and mugs
- Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel
- Sleeping bags
- Clothing – especially men's socks and underwear
- Other toiletries that are sealed
- Cleaning products
- Full, sealed packets of dry, non-perishable food within their sell by date

🌙🏕️ The Big Sleep Out – Bivouac Night 🏕️🌙

On Friday, four of our oldest Scouts, accompanied by two leaders, took part in The Big Sleep Out to raise money for Homeless Action in Barnet.

Rather than sleeping in tents, the Scouts built their own simple bivouac shelters using tarps, creating an A-frame shelter to sleep under for the night. It was a great opportunity to put their outdoor skills into practice and experience a very different way of camping! 🌳🔥

The aim of our Bivouac Night was to raise £500 to support Homeless Action in Barnet.

We’re delighted that so far we have raised £330! 🎉👏

That puts us well on our way to our target, but we’d love to reach the full £500.

🏕️🔥 Cubs Go Camping! 🔥🏕️

Over the weekend, our Sixers and Seconders headed off on an overnight camp and got to experience camping just like the Scouts!

They cooked their meals over wood fires 🔥, slept in Patrol tents ⛺ and ate together under dining shelters. Along the way, they had the chance to learn and practise some of the skills needed to camp independently.

The camp also had an extra special purpose — it was to help Vicki complete her camping permit assessment with the District.

We’re delighted to say that Vicki passed with flying colours! 🎉👏

Congratulations, Vicki! You can now run your own camps and help give even more young people the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors. 🏕️🔥

A big thank you to our Scouts, who helped put up the tents for the Cubs and got the camp ready for them. Your help was really appreciated! 👏

🔥🥪 Backwoods Cooking & Campfire Songs! 🎶🔥

On Friday, the Scouts enjoyed an evening of traditional backwoods cooking, making delicious toasted sandwiches using the classic campfire recipe shown below. There were lots of tasty combinations and plenty of smiles around the fire!

Afterwards, everyone joined in with some campfire songs, led by our fantastic Young Leaders, who did a great job getting everyone singing along.

A fun evening of outdoor skills, good food, and great Scout spirit! 🏕️😊

This week the Beavers were out and about on a riverside walk, they learnt a bit about navigation and also listened to their surroundings! Last week it was all about Harvest we learnt about farming, where our food comes from and they made scarecrows! 🚜🌳🍂
