📣 We made the news!

Huge thank you to Ayokunle Oluwalana and MyLondon for coming down to Wythes Road to tell the story of what has been happening inside The Tate Institute over the last two years.

Originally built over 100 years ago by Henry Tate as a social hub for sugar factory workers, this building sat empty and close to collapse for far too long.

Since taking on the site in 2024, our mission with the REinsTATE project has been simple: divert usable materials from landfill, fix the roof over our heads, and rebuild a proper community asset that belongs to the people.

This side of Silvertown often gets overlooked while big money flows around us, from Docklands to the Elizabeth Line passing right through without stopping. We are one of the last lines of support for the area.

We still have a long way to go, plenty of red tape to cut through, and big plans ahead.

We recently hosted the Footwork at the Tate Institute for an afternoon of tours, collaborative workshops, and discussions.

​Attendees broke into focused sessions to tackle the real challenges of running community spaces, exploring solutions for securing fit-for-purpose leases, shifting relationships with local councils, and building co-governed community funds.

ReSpace’s own Freddie and Gee even co-hosted workshops focused on peer solidarity and negotiating better deals with private developers.

​It was a fantastic day of collective problem-solving and resource-sharing to help build stronger, more resilient neighborhoods.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, the amazing efforts of footwork and everyone who contributed to the conversation!

From Castlemorton, the largest illegal rave of the 1992s, to the Criminal Justice Bill, “Free Party: A Folk History” traces a countercultural movement that began in the British countryside before spreading across the world.

On Friday 18 September, the film will be screened at Reinstate as part of the four-day Spiral Tribe Exhibition programme [] 🌀

After the screening, movie director / will be joined by , director of .themovie and members of the original Spiral Tribe crew for an exclusive live conversation and audience Q&A!

A rare chance to explore the history of this underground movement through the voices of those who documented it and lived it.

Family friendly free fun! Every Wednesday the REinsTate Project from 4.30pm until 7pm! Today young local legends Vinnie and Freddie are going to rock fifa on the PS5 on the big TV, we have a wicked old school 80s arcade machine, and lots of donated games, books and a super craft area for drawing, painting, sewing, jewlery making. Our local big community living room for families to come, connect and have fun with no pressure.

This is not a campaign event and no prior knowledge is needed.

REinsTate officially became a Pokémon Gym, because two young enthusiasts asked and we said yes.

We helped them make the poster, and they dotted it around the area and posted it through doors with their mum's help.

Once word got out, Tom, a local and avid collector, turned up with two big boxes of Pokémon cards to donate.

So volunteers repackaged the cards using materials due for landfill, every child going home with a pack to play.

The day had cakes and snacks from local volunteers, trading and battle stations, a place to learn, and a craft table for making your own cards.

It was a great hit, and the kids already want to do it again.

REinsTate is what you make it, last weekend it was a Pokémon Gym.
