Golden Opportunity Skills and Development We work with the community to help build a vibrant, equal society where everyone has the opportunity

Golden Opportunity Skills and Development (GOSAD) is an Ealing-based charity focused on building a vibrant and equal society. Our services are designed to meet the needs of people from socially disadvantaged parts of our community and help them flourish. Our organisation was founded in 2003 by three friends from diverse and challenging backgrounds who shared a vision of better support for young pe

ople in Southall. Since then, we have delivered ground-breaking projects focused on providing the kinds of help that really makes a difference. We have supported thousands of young people from marginalised backgrounds to dramatically improve their lives. We do that by listening closely to what our communities tell us they need and responding with person-centred approaches. It is our belief that each and every member of society has something to contribute regardless of the issues they face.

Big win for Ealing residents today at the Ealing Citizens Pre-Election Accountability Assembly.

Candidates from the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat parties have all publicly committed to support the Five Basics for Temporary Accommodation if elected in May.

This is a major step forward for families living in temporary accommodation — and proof that when residents organise, speak up and stand together, change happens.
The Five Basics are simple, fair and necessary:

✔️ Cooking facilities
✔️ Laundry access
✔️ Wi-Fi
✔️ Secure storage
✔️ Clear information

These are not luxuries. They are the minimum standards every family deserves for dignity, wellbeing and stability.

At the event, some of the residents in temporary accommodation who have been supported by GOS&D were present and bravely shared their lived experiences of life in TA, helping decision-makers hear directly from those most affected.

GOS&D also distributed information about our new Dignity in Temporary Accommodation project, supporting residents in Ealing and Hounslow to strengthen voice, shape policy and drive lasting change.

Today was about commitments. After the election, it must be about delivery. We will be holding all parties to their word.

How long could you live without these five basics?

Somewhere to cook. A way to wash clothes. WiFi. Safe storage. Clear information about your situation.

For many thousands of Londoners living in temporary accommodation, this is the reality, for months and too often, for years.

How are you meant to rebuild your life when you can't cook a proper meal for your child, or get onto the internet?

We're proud to support the Fix the Five Basics campaign, which calls on councils to change this.

The campaign was built by people with lived experience of temporary accommodation, and it's already working. From new laundry facilities in hostels in Wandsworth to free pre-paid Data Sim Cards for homeless households in Greenwich, boroughs are already making changes to improve conditions for everyone in TA.

In May, every London borough will host full council elections. This is an important moment to share our campaign with candidates, and ask them to take action if they are elected.

We are pleased to share that our Final Multilingual Workshop on Building Long-Term Financial Resilience was very well attended, bringing together local residents from across the community.

The session provided practical support on budgeting, reducing household costs, avoiding debt, and accessing ongoing advice. It also created a safe and welcoming space for residents to share experiences and support one another.

The strong turnout highlights the continued need for accessible, community-based support, particularly during ongoing cost-of-living challenges.

We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to such a positive and engaging session.

Delivered by GOSAD as part of the Household Support Fund programme.

GOS&D End-of-Year Celebration – Thank You to Our Communities

We recently held our End-of-Year Celebration at our Southall Resource Centre, celebrating the achievements, progress, and resilience of our learners, volunteers, and community members.

The celebrations also took place across West Ealing, Greenford, Northolt, and Perivale, allowing us to reach and recognise people in different neighbourhoods where our work is delivered.

It was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the year, and thank everyone who has been part of our journey from participants and volunteers to staff and partners.

We are incredibly proud of our communities and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.

Digital Inclusion Device Distribution
We are proud to have distributed 60 smartphones to members of our local communities who previously had no device, or whose devices were no longer working.

This support was delivered as part of our Digital Inclusion programme, helping people stay connected to essential services, family, learning, and employment opportunities.

The devices were provided through the National Device Bank, powered by Good Things Foundation, which refurbishes laptops, mobile phones, and tablets and makes them available to individuals who would otherwise be digitally excluded.

Access to a working device is no longer a luxury it is a necessity. We are grateful to our partners and funders for helping us bridge the digital divide and support our communities to thrive.
