Last month we made history and put Maternal healthcare on the railway tracks.

𝐌𝐚𝐚 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝.

For too many pregnant women in rural Bangladesh, accessing maternal healthcare means travelling long distances.

So we asked: what if we brought to healthcare to them?

And Maa Express was born.

We retrofitted a train to deliver free maternal healthcare directly to communities that need it most.

Last month, over 120 doctors, healthcare professionals and medical students from 7 universities boarded the first Maa Express.

Together, we travelled into rural communities, providing pregnant women with free consultations, investigations, ultrasound scans and medication.

From its launch, inaugurated by Minister Ariful Choudhury, to our invitation two days later to discuss Maa Express with the Adviser to the Prime Minister, the response has been extraordinary.

And this is only the beginning.

We’re now preparing for an even bigger journey in early November.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support of the Peter Sowerby Foundation. Through Maa Express, Dr Peter Sowerby’s legacy continues to reach communities thousands of miles away.

And a very special thank you to Sara Siegel, whose belief in Maa Express from its earliest stages helped turn an idea into reality.

Today, we successfully conducted the Bangladesh Maa Volunteer Introduction Programme, bringing together dedicated participants from medical colleges across the Sylhet Division.

The programme featured:
• A comprehensive introduction about Maa, highlighting our mission, vision, ongoing initiatives, and core activities.
• An overview of the upcoming Journey Maa programme and its objectives.
• An interactive Ice Breaker Session, creating an engaging environment for participants to connect, collaborate, and build meaningful professional relationships.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participants, organizers, and volunteers whose enthusiasm and commitment made today's programme a success. Your dedication strengthens our collective mission to advance maternal and reproductive health through service, leadership, and community engagement.

Today marks the beginning of an inspiring journey. We look forward to working together with our volunteers to create a lasting impact across our communities.

Over the weekend, Maa Global was in three places! ⛰️

We completed 3 hikes, with 3 communities in one day - all whilst raising money to support women across the world 💙

From the coastal plains of Seven Sisters, to the scramble at Kinder Scout, our hikers did amazing!

Maternal Aid Association (MAA) is pleased to announce the opening of its Volunteer Recruitment & Re-Application Process.

We invite dedicated, motivated, and service-oriented medical students to become part of our volunteer team and contribute to impactful healthcare outreach and community service initiatives.

🔹 Eligibility: Medical Students (3rd Year or Above)
🔹 Applicable for: Bangladeshi Medical Students Only
🔹 Recruitment & Re-Application Deadline: 10 June 2026

As part of our organizational restructuring, all previous volunteer memberships have been concluded. Existing volunteers wishing to continue their journey with MAA are requested to complete the re-application process for re-evaluation and re-enrollment.

Interested candidates are encouraged to carefully review the notice and submit their applications within the specified timeframe.

Together, we can create meaningful change through humanitarian service and community engagement.

This session will focus on understanding the menstrual cycle — from the biology and hormones behind it, to how it can affect mood, energy, and day-to-day life. We’ll also explore common challenges, practical ways to manage symptoms, and have open, honest conversations around cultural stigma — all in a space that is both medically accurate and faith-conscious.
