July 2026 was the driest month in southern England since records began nearly 200 years ago. The Met Office said the 'remarkable conditions' came amid a summer marked by multiple heat records – heatwaves which have been made more intense and more likely by the fossil fuel-driven climate crisis.

We were disappointed that the General Synod motion calling for 30% of Church land to be protected for nature by 2030 was so heavily amended that it missed the chance to adopt an ambitious, area-based target. This action asks Archbishop Sarah to take up this cause.

Today we handed in an open letter to Prime Minster Andy Burnham, signed by over 60 Catholic leaders and organisations calling on him to say no to the Rosebank oil field.

In the letter, leaders write, "Choosing not to approve Rosebank would demonstrate that the United Kingdom is prepared to match its climate commitments with practical action. It would be a decision that reflects both scientific evidence and our shared moral responsibility to care for our common home and to protect those who are most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change".
