🌍 Happy !

On this day last year, we visited all the major Church denominations to hand in our vision for church-owned land and how it can make a positive impact for climate and nature. đź’š

One year later we thought we would take the time to update you on the campaign and the progress that has been made. Read our blog to find out more:

As we reach another World Environment Day, the recent spell of very warm weather has brought into clear focus the importance of our work addressing the climate crisis and recognising how our land is impacted by extreme weather as well as being an important ally: providing shade, storing water and se...

Data centres are expected to consume twice as much power and water by 2030 as they expand to meet the surge in demand from artificial intelligence, researchers say. Unless governments heed the rising environmental ‌costs of AI, the rapid rollout could also strain scarce land resources and create mountains of electronic waste, the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health warned in a report.

Data centres are expected to consume twice as much power and water by 2030 as they expand to meet the surge in demand from artificial intelligence, U.N. researchers said on Wednesday.

Trade agreements that offer investors protection when government decisions are seen as causing harm to their business – a system known as investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) – can hamper the transition away from fossil fuels even when countries are pushing for it. Governments in the Global South are particularly exposed, experts say.

Academics at the first fossil fuel phase-out summit urged governments to recognise investor protection treaties as a barrier to the energy transition

“(In Australia) the role of gas used to be in the evening to meet the evening peak and that came at a cost, because gas is not a cheap fuel. But more and more, every day, it is batteries that are surging into the market at 6pm...pushing those (gas plants) out even as electricity demand increases.”

Australia is pioneering a revolution in home renewables and battery use, proving what is possible with the right policies

A week of sweltering heat and record temperatures is another stark and sobering reminder of the reality of climate change.

But what can we do about it? The good news is – a lot!

And among the most impactful things we can do as individuals, churches and faith institutions, is to ensure that our investments, pensions and savings are doing good for the climate.

How do we do that? We will be showing you how at our forthcoming Green Investment Roadshow events, with our first stop on 10 June at Bristol Cathedral.

When: 10 June from 9:30am (arrival) to 1pm (ending with lunch)
Where: Bristol Cathedral
Cost: Free but registration is required – register at the link below.

With the UK in the grip of an early heatwave, one might think there would be growing political consensus around investing in climate solutions and decarbonising our economy. Yet another influential figure – in this case, former Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair – yesterday attacked net zero and call...

'The immediate cause of the heatwave is a "heat dome" – where an area of high pressure gets "stuck" over Europe, trapping warm air underneath. But scientists have little doubt that human-caused climate change – largely the result of the burning of coal, oil and gas – has supercharged the heat'.

The combined effects of a heat dome and climate change have brought extreme warmth to western Europe.
