Step into the stories and secrets of Bush Wood this Halloween as author and nature writer Derek Smith leads his annual walk to the mysterious Witches Tree in Bush Park.

Along the way, Derek will share tales of local history and the natural world, bringing the landscape to life.

Come along for an autumn afternoon of woodland wonders and a little Halloween magic!

A Taste of Forest Gate got off to a brilliant start last Friday at The Yellow Trike! A packed restaurant, a great atmosphere and delicious food made it a fantastic first night. Thank you to everyone who came along and of course The Yellow Trike

This is the first in our new monthly initiative supporting local businesses while raising much-needed funds for Forest Gate Community Garden.

Next month, we’re heading to Aromas, Forest Lane on Tuesday 3 November. This time you can eat in or take away — more details will be shared nearer the time together with a promo code.

Booking is essential, so keep an eye out for further details and get ready for the next Taste of Forest Gate.

Our next Sunday Social Encore Session takes us into the world of crime fiction —

Join us this weekend Sunday 4th October, 2.30–4pm for Jack in Forest Gate, with local author Derek Smith.

Derek will tell the story of Jack Bell, the builder and sleuth at the heart of his Jack of All Trades crime series. With 16 novels in the series so far, most set in Forest Gate, Jack has certainly kept himself busy — wherever he goes, someone seems to get murdered! 😳🔍 (Fiction, of course!)

Derek will talk about how Jack came about, how the character and series have developed, and how they fit into his 50 years of writing in Newham. He’ll also look at how Forest Gate itself has changed since the first book was published in 2015, and share some tips on writing a crime novel.

Come along for an entertaining and fascinating afternoon of local places, local stories and local crime fiction — all in the beautiful setting of the garden. 🌿📚

We’re rather well known at Forest Gate Community Garden for our cakes (and bread!) and while we’ve been incredibly lucky to have many wonderful bakers contributing over the years, Barbara has truly gone above and beyond.

Quite frankly, if The Great British Bake Off ever came calling, we’re pretty sure Barbara would be a prime contestant. She’s spent countless hours baking an extraordinary array of marvellous, delicious and occasionally dangerously moreish treats for the garden — and, importantly, keeping our blood sugar levels at a reassuringly steady level.

So this weekend we wanted to give Barbara a very well-deserved thank you for all her hard work, time and, quite literally, flour power over the years.

Thankfully, she leaves behind a very well-trained team of bakers, and although she may be taking a little more of a back-seat role front of house, we’re delighted that she’ll still be baking cakes for us.

So it’s not au revoir to the cakes just yet!

Thank you, Barbara, for keeping us all so wonderfully well fed. We’re not sure how we’ll cope with fewer cakes, but we’ll try to be brave.

Support local restaurants & Support the garden at the same time.

Enjoy eating out at a selected restaurant every month and you’ll help raise funds for the Forest Gate Community Garden as well as supporting one of Forest Gate’s fantastic eateries.

This week its the turn of the Yellow Trike Mediterranean Bistro.

Call in or phone to book a table for Friday Oct 2nd and you will be raising much needed funds for the garden so we can carry on running our programmes for the community and maintain the garden for activities.

There are 2 sittings this Friday that are part of the scheme:
5 - 6.30 pm and 6.30 - 8pm

Your £5 booking fee goes directly to Forest Gate Community Garden. It secures your place and includes your first tapas.

And there’s more! After the event, The Yellow Trike will make an additional £5 donation to the garden for every guest.

Taste of Forest Gate is a new monthly initiative celebrating the fantastic food on our doorstep while helping to support Forest Gate Community Garden.

Each month, we’ll spotlight a local restaurant and invite you to enjoy a meal there on our featured day. The restaurant will make a donation directly to the garden, helping us continue to run community programmes and care for our shared green space.

Good food, local businesses and a community garden — a delicious win/win for everyone!

First up is The yellow Trike on Oct 2nd so book by telephone or pop in and book for either of the sittings listed below. There is a £5 booking fee.
