People Power Project: Making Fruit Cake Together, Talking Mental Health

Hands-on and heartwarming. At Tuesday’s True Ambassadors session, residents made a fruit cake together by hand as part of our People Power Project, which works to reduce loneliness and close health gaps.
A special thank you to Maudy for facilitating the session, and to Marcia Tennant for delivering valuable mental health awareness training.

What an incredible day of connection, learning, and celebration in Newham!

It was inspiring to see people of all ages come together to challenge ageism, share experiences, and celebrate the wisdom and contributions of older adults in our community.

Today’s session was filled with creativity, conversation, and self-expression as residents explored the meaning of colours and shared their own personal interpretations. It was inspiring to see everyone engage, reflect, and celebrate their individuality through colour.

It was a great honour to visit Sir Stephen Timms MP today, 5 June 2026, at East Ham Central Park alongside the True Ambassadors team. This visit provided a valuable opportunity to share our journey, reflect on our progress over the years, and discuss our ongoing work within the community .
Sir Stephen Timms is an outstanding leader who listened with genuine passion and enthusiasm. We feel truly privileged to have had the opportunity to engage with him. It was also a pleasure to meet Eilidh, a dedicated student accompanying him.
My sincere thanks to Sir Stephen Timms for his continued service and commitment to the community. I would also like to express my appreciation to the True Ambassadors team and Dr Ibn, Senior Lecturer, for their support and presence on this memorable occasion as we celebrate Volunteers’ Week.
