When you end up paying for electric of private flats above your shop the whole time and aren’t told about the set up and you run a non-profit!
Anyone would struggle to cover obligations.
Bully tactics and liars. My life and mental health has been pushed to its limits for years and all we wanted was transparency so we could concentrate on helping those in need. The community has lost a great asset.
They had ZERO interest in compliance and basic duties as landlords and that’s all we were asking for. When we had an opportunity to upscale they thwarted our efforts by refusing to facilitate removal of obsolete equipment so we could instal our new and safe catering equipment.
Being verbally abused on multiple occasions just trying to protect what we built because they wouldn’t look after their own property.
Whilst trying to be a safe and warm space for people in need from food poverty to VAWG to signposting and loneliness we covered so much and supported so many. What do they do now?
Our council are selling off any assets the community could use for such ventures as they - like most Councils are in financial holes themselves.
If starting a grassroots community venture isn’t hard enough you then have to deal with rogue landlords and in our instance a political influence trying to silence us because of their failings and obstruction from the start.
I will continue to help the community in other ways and support other ventures happening around the Borough.
I will continue to stand up to a system that is systemically broken and is failing the most vulnerable in society.
I will continue to speak out for those who feel they can’t.
Stay strong, stand together, and keep lifting your community — you are the change our world needs. ✨
