In the run-up to Orthodox Easter in Tbilisi and in celebration of World Vet Day, Mayhew Georgia welcomed a third final-year veterinary student from Estonia for intensive training in preventative care, reproductive surgery, anaesthesia, and pain management. Well done to Ida, and best of luck in your future career!

Improving veterinary standards and surgical skills in dog and cat health and welfare is a vital part of Mayhew Georgia’s work.

That’s why we offer training in line with international guidelines at our clinic in Tbilisi for Georgian vets, students, and vet technicians looking to build or strengthen their skills.

And we’re sure the dogs and cats of Georgia appreciate the care! 🐕🐈🐾💜

Updates from Georgia. 🥰

Just as we might feel a little nervous when visiting the doctor or dentist, animals can too.

Our wonderful team in Georgia do everything they can to provide as much comfort as possible - both before and after treatment.

Here, you can see two dogs comforting one another while in the clinic receiving preventative veterinary care.

With the help of our Mayhew Georgia team, these dogs now have a brighter future. Not only are they protected from unwanted litters and from complications that can come from pregnancies, but also from life-threatening diseases. 💜

Despite being just a puppy, Donut was a stray until recently. 💔

Found by a volunteer, she was brought to our clinic in Tbilisi where she could receive the care she needed.

It wasn’t long before everyone fell in love with her (we can’t blame them!), and everyone sprang into action to find her a loving home.

After receiving preventative veterinary care, including being neutered and vaccinated, Donut was adopted into a loving family. 💜

Donut is a wonderful example of the incredible work our Mayhew International teams do this .

Over the last two weeks, Mayhew Georgia welcomed two final-year vet students, Laura and Anna-Leena from Estonia, for some intensive training in preventative vet care, reproductive surgery, anaesthesia and pain management.

Well done to Laura and Anna-Leena, and good luck with your new jobs in Finland!

This is why we offer training in accordance with international guidelines at our clinic in Tbilisi for Georgian vets and students, as well as vet techs and students who wish to become proficient and/or upskill in this area.

And we’re sure the dogs and cats of Georgia appreciate the better care! 🐕🐈🐾💜

Did you know that our clinic team in Georgia is made up entirely of women?

We are incredibly proud to have a team of strong, intelligent, passionate and hardworking women who quite literally save lives.

Not only do they transform individual lives every day, they are also helping to shape the future of veterinary medicine and animal welfare - from training aspiring veterinarians to leading community outreach and education programmes.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the incredible women who make up our clinic team - an integral part of Mayhew and who we are. 💜

Extreme cuteness alert!

Last week for World Spay Day, our Mayhew Georgia Team were busy neutering dogs and cats, including these adorable puppies here.

In total, 47 animals were neutered and vaccinated over three days. An incredible achievement by the team. 💜

Did you know that today is World Spay Day?

A day that highlights why preventative veterinary care is so important for animals like Kiara.

Sadly, life as a street dog is often far from kind, which was the case for Kiara. She was found with a large infected wound on her front leg and a badly healed fracture, likely caused by a road traffic accident.

The muscles in her leg had completely atrophied, preventing her from walking properly and leaving her in pain.

Thankfully, our Mayhew Georgia team were able to provide the life-saving treatment she so desperately needed. Although her leg couldn’t be saved, her life could.

Alongside treatment for her injury, Kiara will also receive preventative veterinary care, including being spayed. Neutering not only improves the wellbeing of individual dogs, but also helps to humanely manage street dog populations - preventing more puppies from being born into a cycle of suffering.

If you'd like to support our international work, please consider making a donation today. It might just change a life: https://bit.ly/46oE2Pm.

Mayhew Georgia was delighted to welcome two final year vet students from Czechia over the first two weeks of February to our clinic in Tbilisi.

Pavlina and Marketa gained valuable experience working in a charitable clinic focussing on preventative health and welfare for dogs and cats, including pre- and post-operative care, prepping animals for surgery, putting in cannulas, giving injections and suturing skills.

Congratulations to Pavlina and Marketa - we hope you enjoyed your time with the vet team in Tbilisi. 🐶 💜 🐱

We all love a happy ending, and Rue's story is just that! Rue was found as a young puppy on the streets of Dusheti with a horrific injury that was most likely caused by a road traffic accident.

The family that found him didn't want to leave him to suffer, so little Rue was brought to Mayhew Georgia's clinic, where our wonderful vet team immediately sprang into action to care for and comfort him.

Unfortunately his leg was too badly damaged to be saved, so the team had to perform an amputation. But little Rue came through the surgery well and went to recovery care. He is up and about now and full of beans like any young pup, and the best news is that the family who found him have decided to adopt him - so little Rue has really fallen on his, now, three paws, with a loving home.

A huge well done to the Mayhew Georgia Team who saved little Rue's life. 💜

The Mayhew Georgia team recently treated a friendly face from the past!

Lali was one of the very first dogs Mayhew Georgia neutered in Tbilisi, all the way back in 2016, when our work in the country had not long begun.

Our very own Eka, an animal lover & volunteer at that time had brought Lali for neutering under Mayhew’s programme and has been keeping a caring eye on her ever since.

When Eka, now one of our great vet techs, noticed that Lali had developed a tumour on her stomach, she brought her into the clinic for an examination. Fortunately, the tumour was benign - an accumulation of fatty tissue that the team were able to successfully remove.

Due to her age, Lali stayed at the clinic for observation, and just a day later she was ready to return to her territory under Eka’s watchful eye.

Now, Lali can live much more comfortably and knowing she has many friends nearby. 💜
