Unbroken: Voices of Strength and Survival
This book began with a simple but important belief: survivors deserve to have their voices heard.
Unbroken brings together the stories of women who have lived through abuse, adversity and experiences that, too often, are hidden behind closed doors. But these are not simply stories about what happened to them. They are stories of courage, identity, motherhood, hope, rebuilding and survival.
We wanted to create something that gave women the space to tell their stories and be seen not through the lens of what they had endured, but through the strength with which they continued forward.
Publishing Unbroken during South Asian Heritage Month felt particularly meaningful. As we celebrate our heritage, our culture and the generations who came before us, we must also make space for the stories that have historically been difficult to tell. The voices of survivors are part of our heritage too.
After the many conversations, stories, words and images that went into creating this book, there was something incredibly moving about finally seeing Unbroken in print and sharing it at Kiran Support Services’ 35th Anniversary celebration.
Thirty-five years of supporting women. Thirty-five years of listening, advocating and standing alongside survivors. It felt fitting that this milestone should be marked by something that places their voices at the very heart of our story.
