Happy Vaisakhi to all our those celebrating.

Vaisakhi - the Sikh New Year festival - is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar. It marks the start of the Punjabi New Year, but it is also a day to celebrate 1699 - the year when Sikhism was born as a collective faith.

To celebrate Vaisakhi, Sikhs will visit places of worship called Gurdwaras. These will also be especially decorated for the occasion.

Many people enjoy parades and special processions through the streets called nagar kirtans.

Celebrations traditionally include singing and music, as well as reading scriptures out loud and chanting hymns.

Earlier this month CEO, Amtal Rama attended IKRWO's True Honour Awards 2026, as a nominee:

"I am truly honoured to have been recognised as a nominee by IKWRO for my work supporting women and girls affected by gender-based violence.

This recognition is not just personal, it reflects the tireless commitment of the entire team at Kiran Support Services and the strength of the communities we serve. Every day, we stand alongside women who show immense courage in the face of adversity.

It was a privilege to be among such inspiring nominees and award recipients, individuals who continue to lead, challenge injustice, and advocate for the safety and rights of women and girls.

A significant part of our work involves addressing so-called “honour”-based abuse, an issue often hidden, misunderstood, and silenced within communities. We must continue to challenge harmful narratives and ensure that culture is never used as a justification for abuse.

Speaking out against gender-based violence is not always easy. Cultural expectations and social norms can create barriers to addressing harm. But safeguarding women and girls must always remain our priority.

I remain committed to continuing this work and to amplifying the voices of those who are too often unheard."

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating, we hope you have a safe and happy Eid.

What does ‘Eid Mubarak’ mean?

“Eid Mubarak” is the traditional phrase used by Muslims to greet each other during the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha celebrations later in the year.

The Arabic word “mubarak” translates as “blessed,” while “Eid” means feast, festival or celebration, so “Eid Mubarak” can literally mean “blessed celebration” or “blessed feast”, although it is widely interpreted as simply wishing somebody a “happy Eid”.

In exactly the same way, Muslims will often wish their fellow observers “Ramadan Mubarak” at the start of the holy month and throughout the fasting period.

“Ramadan Kareem” is less commonly used, but translates as “Generous Ramadan” – while the phrase can be used as a greeting in a similar way to “Ramadan Mubarak”, it can also describe Ramadan when referring to it in a wider context.

To mark International Women's Day 2026, we hosted a 'Give to Gain' workshop celebrating the power of uplifting one another.

Attendees enjoyed sharing hand cut-outs in small groups, writing meaningful messages about what they have learned from one another and the strengths they see in each other. The hands were then decorated and added to a shared tree, symbolising growth, connection and collective strength.

The women also particpated in word searches, an interactive quiz and listened to inspirational speeches and poems from our service users.

This workshop created space to celebrate women's voices and achievements, because when women give encouragement and support, we all gain.
