As the year gets underway, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what we achieved together with our partners in 2025 💛

✨ Over 19,000 people supported through advice
✨ 37,000+ conversations helping households navigate debt, benefits, housing and financial insecurity
✨ £32m in financial gains for people at moments of real pressure

But the impact went far beyond money. Many people told us they felt less stressed, more able to cope, and better supported to avoid escalating debt and serious harm to their wellbeing.
💬 “I felt safe and wanted to live again.”
💬 “I was treated with dignity, compassion and great customer service.”

As many enter this year still carrying the weight of financial stress, last year showed what’s possible when support is accessible and joined-up.
Together, we’re helping people regain control, stability and hope.

✨ Community, connection & cheer ✨
Over 50 older residents came together at Toynbee Hall for our community holiday party 🎄

From a free 2-course meal and festive singing to games, laughter and a raffle, it was a joyful celebration of togetherness.

People of all faiths and cultures joined in, and everyone received warm packs kindly provided by the Tower Hamlets council ❤️
A true highlight of our year.

💛 A Year of Community 💛
This year at Toynbee Hall, we worked with our partners to support our community through challenging times. Helping people feel more secure, connected, and hopeful.

📣 Advice Services: Helped thousands navigate financial challenges, putting more money back in people’s pockets than any other year.

🏡 Community Centre: A welcoming hub for older neighbours, while our children’s play programme created safe, creative spaces for young people to learn, play, and thrive.

🗣️Lived Experience: Peer researchers ensured community voices are heard locally and nationally.

✨ Looking Ahead 2025–26: Expanding services, deepening partnerships, and keeping community voices at the heart of change.

💛 A community centre for every generation 💛

At Toynbee Hall, our community centre is a place to play, connect, and belong.
🌈 Playful Tower Hamlets creates free, welcoming spaces where children can explore, create, and be themselves through outdoor play, art clubs, and nature sessions. Families come together, friendships grow, and confidence blossoms.
💬 “We feel less isolated – this is the only place my child feels confident to join in.”

☕ LinkAge Plus brings people over 50 together to stay active, creative, and connected from yoga and singing to painting, bingo, and coffee mornings. Delivered with partners across Tower Hamlets, it’s about joy, movement, and shared moments.

From toddlers discovering the joy of play to older neighbours finding connection and purpose, our programmes help people of all ages feel part of something bigger.
✨ This is what community looks like: welcoming, creative, and full of life.

✨ Season’s greetings from Toynbee Hall ✨
As the year comes to a close, we want to thank our community, partners, volunteers, and supporters for everything you’ve shared with us. Your time, trust, creativity, and care.

This season is marked in many different ways across our community. Whatever you celebrate, or if you don’t celebrate at all, we wish you moments of rest, connection, and kindness.

We look forward to continuing to work together in the new year to build stronger, fairer communities where everyone belongs. 💛
Warm wishes,
Toynbee Hall

✨ Research led by lived experience ✨
In 2024–25, we have strengthened our commitment to Participatory Action Research – putting communities at the heart of creating change.
📊 Our peer researchers co-designed a national survey with 1,500+ young people on emotional support during the cost-of-living crisis, influencing policymakers and published in an academic journal.
We worked with partners across the UK to shape national conversations on mental health, poverty, disability, and the justice system.
🌱 Locally, our wellbeing pilot with young Bangladeshi women in Tower Hamlets helped build confidence, connection, and access to support – with 80% saying they had someone to turn to by the end.
💬 “After a long day at work, I come here to connect. It lifts my mood. I feel joy.”

This Black History Month, we honor the long legacy of black activism in Tower Hamlets, from early resistance and housing justice to health equality and cultural empowerment.

“What would you do?”

In this interactive game, you step into the shoes of a young person from a low-income family, navigating everyday pressures - school, friendships, mental health, and more.

Some choices don’t always lead to the same outcome. Just like real life, you don’t always get to control what happens next.

This game was created as part of our youth-led Emotional Support for Young People project, developed from real experiences, challenges, and insights shared by young people themselves.

🟣 It’s Challenge Poverty Week, and we’re spotlighting the voices and realities of young people living through poverty and what real emotional support can look like.
