The Founder of DChanger attended the Pancreatic Cancer UK reception on “Driving Treatment Breakthroughs” at the Terrace Pavilion, House of Commons.

The event highlighted critical advances in pancreatic cancer research, a disease that is often diagnosed late and remains highly aggressive. Discussions focused on understanding how cancer spreads, including the role of key proteins such as FOXA1, and how targeting these pathways could lead to new treatment options for advanced cases.

Researchers also explored how to better predict patient response to chemotherapy, with emerging evidence suggesting that bacteria in the gut and mouth may influence treatment effectiveness. This could pave the way for tests that help personalise therapy and avoid unnecessary toxicity for patients unlikely to respond.

Another promising area of work involves combining focused ultrasound with immunotherapy to improve drug delivery and strengthen the immune system’s ability to attack tumours, offering new hope for more effective treatment strategies.

The session brought together clinicians, researchers, and stakeholders committed to accelerating breakthroughs in pancreatic cancer care.

DChanger UK, led by Founder and CEO Yinka Sowemimo-Coker, convened a parliamentary roundtable hosted by Abena Oppong-Asare MP to discuss community-led early diagnosis and cancer inequalities affecting Black communities.

The event brought together clinicians, researchers, faith leaders, community advocates, people with lived experience and partner organisations to explore practical ways to improve awareness, build trust and support earlier diagnosis.

Discussions highlighted key barriers, including late diagnosis, stigma, limited access to services, unequal care experiences and lack of trust in institutions. Speakers also emphasised that cancer affects more than the body — it impacts emotional, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing.

A clear message emerged: improving cancer outcomes requires genuine partnership with Black communities, not just awareness campaigns. Churches, charities, families, advocates and grassroots organisations all have a vital role to play in helping people recognise symptoms, seek help early and access support.

DChanger UK remains committed to working collaboratively to reduce fear, improve early diagnosis, build trust and help save lives.
