A small but select group this week.
A discussion around times of the meeting. Thoughts on moving to 1.30-3.30 as most folk in the winter time have already packed up and left. Unanimous vote to trial. Shall bring this up at the AGM. This could have a significant saving to the group with dwindling membership.
Also discussed bringing in the horseshoe table arrangement so we are closer together. We will have to move tables and chairs after the VAC group twice a month.
Lynda spoke to Ann post her op, and she is feeling well considering. This week it’s back to the consultant for views on what the next treatment should be.

Norma brought a stunning quilt in blues from her retreat at Launde Abbey and a cute Robin quilt.
Julie continues her blocks with a lovely fushia pattern.
Jackie has all the strips back for the group quilt. She is very please with the colourway. Her strip has sections from Jackie, Ann, Mandy, Pam, Martina and Pauline. Very striking !

Don’t forget it is the AGM next week.

Lots of strips for our charity quilts today! And the beginnings of a sweet floral applique from Julie. The last two pictures are Mandy's project from the VAC group this morning. A kind of lino cut made from a tetra pack (milk carton) and the resulting print.

It's the season for strip quilting and A4 quilts at WHQ. Sharon, Jackie and Pam have their strips ready for the next exchange next week. And due to Pam's circle obsession, her pile of fund raising A4 quilts is growing. Martina finished the hexie top someone started in the 1970s, to give to Quilts for Care Leavers (Q4CL). It'll provide a hug for some young person starting out independently, which the individual hexie flowers are supposed to represent. (Quilt is upside down.)

I've been tardy with posting show and tell pictures, so the following are from the last couple of weeks. Mandy's pink scraps bag, Norma's experimental thread painting, Julie's thread 'scribbles' and cute teddy bear, some A4 quilts from Pam, fishy business from Chris and Lynda (do sea horses count as fish?), the beginnings of a felted hare from Lynda and visitor Elisabeth's autumn quilt. As we're heading into autumn, we're producing more work again.

This week were a very small select group. We laid out the group strips to see how they were coming along. Lynda, Chris and Mandy showed off their paper machè work started that morning at the the visual arts collective. Chris is working on a coracle, Mandy a starfish and Lynda a seahorse. Mandy also showed us a placemat reworked and has two more to go.

A very special show and tell today, with all the quilts featured in Pat Storey's book 'Geometrical Quilts'. Heaven for maths needs and quilters like me.
In other news we keep producing strips towards our strip quilt challenge, which will hopefully result in several charity quilts. Today Mandy and Lynda showed theirs.

Another eclectic mix of show and tell items this week. From Mandy's little patchwork quilt for a stuffed animal, and her key purse, to Chris' kingfisher and felt seascape fabric art. And then Lynda's colourful contribution to the shoal of fish the VAC group appear to be working on.
With my apologies to Sheila, I didn't get a decent picture, I will post your item next week.

A few very nice items in show and tell today. Mary's entirely hand sewn log cabin cushion. Mandy's fish art and glasses case. And Julie's colourful handbag. We're also working on some stash busting projects for charity and had our second strip exchange today. Beginning to see that these quilts will all have very unique stories and characters, so watch this spot.

What a busy afternoon 'team WHQ' had today. We bravely tackled our equipment store and managed to reduce its contents by about a third. We can now see the sewing machines, irons, rulers and mats that are the tools of or trade (or art, really). And we have a manageable amount of fabrics for future projects.
Maybe we can try to produce wall hangings, as beautiful as this African inspired one from Pam. Or maybe we can make something useful like Mandy's glasses case instead.
The last picture is information on a local embroidery exhibition we are all really looking forward to. Can't wait.

I almost forgot to post Wednesday's show and tell!
Starting with my favourite, Chris' tribute to her grandmother, followed by two items from workshops, one painted/sprayed on velvet, which gives a lovely effect. Then Julie showed us her finished wonky log cabin, with its posh reverse side. Mary, also working on a log cabin, a cushion, asked for suggestions on how to quilt it. And June showed another cushion, with a fluffy bunny. Sheila, Mandy, Pauline and Lynda shared their fishy business with us and I think it was Jackie, who recommended viewing the Welsh tapestry referenced in the last picture. An enjoyable afternoon.
