Hope Rescue is a registered charity (number 1129629) that saves stray and abandoned dogs in South Wales. We operate from a rescue centre in Llanharan and also have a charity shop in Pontypridd.

MEET BOW 🤠

This sensitive, thoughtful Pointer is looking for an understanding home where he can take things at his own pace and build a special bond with his people. Bow loves long, sniffy walks and carrying his plush toys around, and would thrive with quieter walking locations and a secure garden 🌳

He’s looking for an experienced, adult-only home with a calm, predictable routine and time to build his confidence. He’d prefer to be the only dog (with suitable canine friends for walks) and can’t live with cats or small furries.

Once Bow feels safe, his clever, playful and affectionate personality really comes out, and he'll keep you endlessly entertained with his silly ways!

🦒 LURCHER LOVERS UNITE! 🦒

Once a lurcher lover, always a lurcher lover! These long-legged snooze experts make wonderfully loving companions. They’re gentle, affectionate, and every bit as happy on the sofa as they are stretching their legs on a good run.

Sadly, we often find that lurchers spend longer in kennels than other breeds, and black lurchers in particular tend to be overlooked 🥺 We have some very special lurchers in our care right now, who’ve all been waiting for their person for longer than we’d like.

Say hello to Noel, Marina, Milo, Mama Bear, Butch, Lando, Monty and Ffion! 💛

Do you have questions about how or why you need a will - pop into the Blackwood Hope Rescue charity shop and speak with Jack Dean from Octopus Legacy. He can answer all your questions, you can book a time to write your will or just find out more about why wills matter.

No obligation to write your will, or leave a gift to Hope Rescue. But if you do choose to leave a gift to the dogs, even 1% can make a huge difference.

HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF HOPE RESCUE 🐾

We're developing Hope Rescue's 2027-2030 strategy, and we want to hear from you!

We're asking people across our community to share their experiences and views about dogs – from choosing and living with a dog to accessing support, rescue and rehoming, and the challenges dogs and their owners may face in the future.

You don't need to be involved with Hope Rescue, own a dog or be an expert on dogs. We want to hear from dog owners, adopters, volunteers and supporters, but also from people across the wider community who live alongside dogs.

The survey takes around 10 minutes, and what you tell us will help shape our priorities for the next three years.

🎆 THE FIREWORKS PLAN: SPEAK TO YOUR VET EARLY

If your dog struggles with fireworks, now is the time to speak to your vet - not when fireworks season is already in full swing. 🐾

For some dogs, changes at home and careful preparation may be enough. For others, fireworks can cause a lot of fear and distress, and veterinary support may be an important part of their plan.

💊 Medication isn’t a failure.
🩺 Your vet can help you explore appropriate options for your dog - considering their overall health.
📅 Starting the conversation early gives you time to make a plan before you need it.

If you already know fireworks are difficult for your dog, make that call now.

We’ll be sharing more of The Fireworks Plan throughout October and into November. Save this series and share it with another dog person who might find it useful. 🐶
