**WHAT DOES TODAY'S BUDGET MEAN FOR WORKING PEOPLE?**

Today's Budget contains a number of measures that will affect workers and households across Lincolnshire.

📈 The National Living Wage is increasing to **£13.20 an hour** for workers aged 21 and over.

🏠 Changes to energy costs include the removal of the gas standing charge from 2027 and **£100 payments for eligible households in council tax bands A–D**.

🚗 Fuel duty is being frozen at 52p a litre through to July — particularly relevant in a largely rural county where many workers rely on their cars to get to work.

💷 Mileage rates for business travel above 10,000 miles are also increasing from 25p to 35p per mile.

👨‍👩‍👧 Changes to parental pay and Carer's Allowance could provide additional support for some working families and carers.

But there are also important questions for working people.

What will happen to wages above the minimum wage? How will public-sector employers fund pay increases? And what will frozen tax thresholds mean as wages rise?

For Lincolnshire workers, the important thing is not simply what is announced today — but what these measures mean for **pay packets, household bills, job security and public services**.

We'll continue to look at the detail and speak up for working people across Lincolnshire.

Solidarity with University of Lincoln Staff ✊

We stand in solidarity with the at the University of Lincoln in defending staff rights, privacy, academic freedom and dignity in the workplace.

The proposed Learning Capture and Staff-Led Teaching Recordings Policy raises serious concerns about compulsory recording, the use of recordings in misconduct investigations, and the potential consequences of staff and students’ audio-visual data being accessed or misused.

Their position is clear: lecture recording should be recommended, not compulsory, and used for teaching purposes only. Staff should have the right to opt out, with appropriate alternative adjustments provided for students who need them. Previous recordings should not be used to replace teaching during staff absence or industrial action without consent.

We support efforts to resolve this dispute through meaningful consultation and a fair policy that respects staff rights and protects the whole university community.

This made us chuckle. Though most bosses appreciate the benefits of having an organised union in their workplace. Better staff retention. Lower sickness absence. Higher productivity to name a few
