Leeds Recycles are sharing the following important message...

⚠️ If you pay someone to take away stuff from your home or garden BEWARE of HIDDEN COSTS ⚠️

Remember - the cheapest waste removal service might not be the best value - if you pay an unlicensed person to remove your rubbish and they fly tip it, YOU could be landed with a £200 fine.

Protect yourself from a fine and save your local area from a potential fly tip. Always do the 3 checks:
✅ Ask to see their waste carrier licence
✅ Get a receipt or waste transfer note
✅ Ask where they are taking the waste to dispose of it

A genuine waste carrier will not mind you asking these questions and will always provide you with a proper receipt. If in doubt, do not allow anyone to take your waste.

👍 Better still, use a LAWCS member. Find an accredited waste carrier here 👇

This week is and Leeds Recycles have shared some top tips to ensure your waste carrier is fully legal and responsible - and avoid getting fined.

🚚 If you're thinking of paying someone to take away your waste, avoid the Facebook fly tippers and visit https://www.leedsdirectory.org/LAWCS to find a local, legal, responsible waste carrier.

World Cleanup Day is being held on Sunday 20th September! 🗑️🧹

This is an international event where volunteers worldwide organize local cleanups to remove litter from streets, coasts, forests, and waterways. The event emphasises that large-scale environmental problems can only be effectively addressed when individuals take action in their own communities.

Check out what’s happening in your local community using the link below on or around the 20th, or just head out on your own! 💜

You can also assign your bag total to World Cleanup Day when you submit your bag return too.

It’s the holiday season for some people, but that didn’t stop 6 of the Wednesday gang turning out for a warm litter pick along our old stomping grounds along Redcote Lane.
We filled more than 20 purple bags with litter, plus some glass bottles and a couple of sacks of cans for recycling. As always there were some nitrous oxide cyclinders and some larger items of fly-tipping. Quite a lot of Greggs wrapping in evidence today.
Thanks to Goals Leeds for a very welcome cuppa afterwards.

Another great effort by the Wednesday Gang this sunny morning, in a joint operation with the Beeston Womblers. There were about 14 or 15 of us in total.
We covered a stretch of the Ring Road Beeston from the M621 junction to the roundabout near the Sulzer plant. Not a great distance, but there was lots of litter. We have had a “No Mow May”, but there seems to have been a “No Mow April” here, with litter very difficult to see in the long grass.
We filled at least 46 purple bags, most of which were left in a big pile in the car park outside the B & Q store.
Thanks to Burger King UK for some very welcome drinks afterwards.
