Another great effort by the Wednesday Gang this sunny morning, in a joint operation with the Beeston Womblers. There were about 14 or 15 of us in total.
We covered a stretch of the Ring Road Beeston from the M621 junction to the roundabout near the Sulzer plant. Not a great distance, but there was lots of litter. We have had a โ€œNo Mow Mayโ€, but there seems to have been a โ€œNo Mow Aprilโ€ here, with litter very difficult to see in the long grass.
We filled at least 46 purple bags, most of which were left in a big pile in the car park outside the B & Q store.
Thanks to Burger King UK for some very welcome drinks afterwards.

Back where it all started. Some of the first litter picks by the Wednesday Gang were on Redcote Lane during the 2020 Covid lockdown.
Unfortunately, nearly 6 years later, weโ€™re still finding far too much litter here. Our 7 volunteers today filled 21 purple bags with litter, 2 full bags of cans for recycling and 2 boxes of glass bottles. There were 15 nitrous oxide cylinders, and we even found one toilet seat.
Thanks to Goals Leeds for our hot drinks afterwards, and we were very grateful that it stayed dry.

When you add together what all our local groups are doing around Leeds, it shows what a difference we are making. 27,000+ bags in 2025, and still counting.

Operation A65. Several Leeds and Bradford teams work together over the weekend to tackle 19 miles of the A65, from central Leeds out to Addingham, and the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. Look what we can achieve when we work together. And the sunshine helped too.
Thanks to all the volunteers involved.

8 years ago today Litter Free Leeds was started after a meeting at Pudsey Civic Hall.
It often seems that progress is very slow, but look how we have grown! All our local teams around Leeds. And at least 22,000 purple bags of litter filled by volunteers around our city in 2024.
Onwards and upwards.
