🎉Fancy seeing dancers performing at Temple Newsam?💃

It's only 20 days and counting until the incredible Leeds West Indian Carnival lands in Potternewton Park - get 31 August in your diary, it's going to be fabulous.

We LOVE costume, music, dance and culture at Temple Newsam - so you can imagine how excited we are to welcome , iconic carnival performers, to Steps Through Time: A Day of Dance at Temple Newsam House on Saturday 5 September.

Come and see the costumes up close, shake your body to the music and bring those carnival vibes into the house!

RJC Dance will be leading a drop‑in session from 3:30–4:30pm, but the whole day is packed with performances, workshops and demonstrations.

Come and experience the house filled with energy and life as dancers take over the grand halls and galleries - from elegant historical steps to high‑energy contemporary styles.

Local dance groups will be showcasing everything from ballroom to breakin’, Chinese heritage dance to Regency elegance, carnival movement to mid‑century jive.

It’s a relaxed, all‑ages event - join in if you like, or simply enjoy the show. No experience needed. Just come along, soak up the atmosphere, and have fun.

We had an amazing day dancing at Ryedale Folk Museum yesterday! Beautiful weather, lots of lovely people joining in. We love doing events like these. You can catch us at Kirkstall Abbey on Sunday 16th August to celebrate 400 years of Leeds receiving its first Royal Charter.

Ryedale Folk Museum is a great day out and this Saturday we will be dancing Baroque dances from 11:30. Double the reason to visit 😉

We're looking forward to welcoming the Arbeau Dancers this Saturday - 8 August.

'Arbeau Dancers' perform dances from the fifteenth through to the nineteenth centuries. Here they are on their last visit to the museum.

This time, they'll be delighting us with performances inspired by the Baroque era.

There will be performances throughout the day from 11.30.

We are excited too! We love dancing at Ryedale Folk Museum 😍

Very excited about this one - we'll be joined throughout the day by the wonderful Arbeau, historic dancers who will be introducing us to the wonderful world of Baroque dancing on Saturday 8 August!

There will be performances throughout the day from 11.30 am.

We had fabulous day yesterday in York! It was a very warm day but refreshments and ice cream helped! 🌞 🍻 🍦

Happy International Dance Day everyone! Thank you Sarah Beaumont for recording us on Saturday at our workshop.

In 1982 the Dance Committee of ITI founded International Dance Day to be celebrated every year on the 29th April, the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre (1727-1810), creator of modern ballet. The intention of the International Dance Day Message is to celebrate dance, revel in the universality of this art form, cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers, and bring people together with a common language - dance.

This years message comes from Choreographer Crystal Pite:
"We are dancers, all of us. Life moves us; life dances us... We sculpt space... We write with our bodies in a wordless language that is deeply understood. We grace the space within and around us when we dance. Like life, a dance creates and destroys itself in every moment. Like love, it is beyond reason. I like to think of the body as a location; a place where being is held and shaped. When we dance, we are profoundly engaged in being there."

The countdown is on for Scarborough Streets 2026 🤹

From 29–31 May, the town centre will come alive with a packed programme of street performances, live entertainment and family-friendly activity as part of The Scarborough Fair.

Expect plenty of local talent, interactive moments and something happening around every corner.
