A local, independent charity providing therapy and support to adults and children affected by cancer, life-shortening illness and bereavement.

We have four centres in Lancaster, Kendal, Barrow and Morecambe. CancerCare is an independent local charity in the UK dedicated to helping local families affected by cancer and bereavement living in North Lancashire and South Lakeland. Delivered by qualified and experienced staff, CancerCare’s wide range of free professional therapy services are designed to help individuals and their families come to terms with and manage the challenges of a serious health condition and include: Counselling, Hypnotherapy, Alexander Technique, Aromatherapy Massage, Creative Art Therapies, Support Groups and a Children and Young People’s Service. CancerCare has four dedicated centres based in Kendal (The Lakes Centre, Blackhall Road) , Lancaster (Slynedales, Slyne Road), Barrow (Duke Street) and Morecambe (Northumberland Street). CancerCare also provide outreach services in local hospitals and communities. With over 30 years of experience, CancerCare has worked with and helped over 22,000 local people affected by cancer and other life limiting conditions. CancerCare services are provided free of charge; possible only through fundraising and generous donations from local people.

Happening this weekend!

Supporter Chris Dickson is hosting his annual Halloween fundraiser to raise money for CancerCare on 30th and 31st October 🎃

This year, Chris has teamed up with the Lancaster Ghostbusters to take on the evil scarecrow!

BB’s snack bar will have hot dogs and burgers, and there will be live actors handing out sweets to the public.

Head down to 80 South Road in Morecambe to view the Halloween display and see if the Lancaster Ghostbusters are able to defeat the scarecrow, 5.30pm – 8pm.

September 2026 in numbers at CancerCare

🔵 We received 164 new referrals
🔵 We saw 418 clients
🔵 We provided 36 group sessions to 73 clients
🔵 We provided 812 one-to-one therapy sessions for 348 clients

What a fantastic day we had at Leighton Hall’s Apple Day recently 🍎

We had glorious sunshine all day, and attendees enjoyed a day filled with autumnal fun! Our ‘Hook an Apple’ game proved a crowd favourite where we were able to rehome lots of teddies!

We raised a total of £393 on the day! Thank you to everyone who came along to play our raffle, make a leaf hedgehog and talk to our team about the services we offer to people affected by cancer, life-shortening illness and bereavement.

A huge thank you to Leighton Hall for inviting us back this year, we cannot wait for Apple Day 2027 🍎

Stanleys Community Centre are teaming up with us for a frightfully fun evening, and they’ve got lots planned! 🧡💜

Expect prizes, a tombola, a breast cancer awareness station, and plenty more surprises! 🎁

Today is Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS) World Awareness Day ❤️

Every 25th October, the MDS Alliance and its member groups around the world unite to raise awareness of Myelodysplastic Syndromes, a rare type of blood cancer where the bone marrow does not produce enough healthy blood cells. It is also commonly known as myelodysplasia.

There are many different types of MDS, some types can stay mild for years and others are more serious.

MDS can affect people of any age but is most common in adults over the age of 70.
The symptoms you have will depend on the type of MDS but if you have any concerns please speak to your GP as soon as possible.

Exciting news, the route for the Tour de France Grand Depart 2027 has been announced and will cross through Cumbria and Lancashire!

You too could take on your own epic cycling challenge for CancerCare next summer and join the Tour de France finishers in Paris 🚴‍♂️

The London to Paris Bike Ride is an awesome cycling challenge, where you will spend 4 days cycling from capital to capital. Your journey begins in London, taking you through scenic English countryside from Kent to Dover, before crossing the Channel and continuing through the rolling green fields of Northern France. View amazing sights such as the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysées, before reaching the Eiffel Tower, which marks the finish line.
