Well done Oldham !

Honouring Dolly Parton’s legacy in Oldham 💖

Following the sad news of Dolly’s passing, we’re shining a light on one of the incredible legacies she leaves behind: the Imagination Library 📚

Did you know Oldham has its own Imagination Library programme? Set up by local volunteers in 2021, it has helped 42 children receive a free book every month, inspiring a lifelong love of reading. The team now hopes to reach even more children across the borough.

While the Lancaster Central Library is closed for major roof works... The Friends of Lancaster Library Games Evening continues this Friday 28th August (and fortnightly thereafter) between 6 and 9 pm at Positive Futures Unit 701 Cameron House, White Cross Business Park, South Road Lancaster LA1 4XF. We had a great time a fortnight ago. New members are welcome, come along and join in the fun.

Please note that because of repairs being carried out at Lancaster Central Library the Friends of Lancaster Library talks are now being held in The Centre, behind St. Thomas' Church in Penny Street.

🎲 Important Update: Community Games Night Temporary Relocation 🎲

Please be advised that, due to essential roof repair works at Lancaster Central Library, our Community Games Night will temporarily relocate to the following venue with immediate effect:

📍 Positive Futures
701 Cameron House
White Cross Industrial Estate, South Road
Lancaster, LA1 4XF

This arrangement commences this Friday, 14 August, and will continue on a fortnightly basis until the library reopens. We would like to thank Positive Futures for allowing us to use their space allowing us to continue this ever growing games night.

There will be a library of popular games that will remain available at the new location. Participants are also still welcome to bring their own games and use the space.

Please note that our Dungeons & Dragons sessions will continue as scheduled at this venue.

We look forward to welcoming you to our new temporary location this Friday and appreciate your understanding during this period.

It’s your last chance this afternoon to take out a library book from Lancaster Central Library.
Closing at 5 pm until the Spring.

Today Wednesday is the last chance to attend our Pop-Up cafe at the library between 11 and 1. We shall be taking a break over the rest of August while we look for other city centre locations where we could provide our lovely cakes and hot drinks.

Thursday will be the last chance to attend our craft session between 2 and 4:45 Our volunteers will have some time off over August , but we expect to be able to announce shortly that we will restart these sessions at a new venue on Tuesdays from 8th September.

And when you come along please thank our lovely volunteers who have kept our cafes and craft sessions going,

Two weeks to go..and lots of arrangements still to be finalised.

Residents have called for essential services to be maintained when Lancaster Library closes for renovations.

As the countdown begins to the library closing for major roof works, make the most of every opportunity to visit the library and get your final books out !

The Friends of Lancaster Library will be running our final Pop Up Cafes on Wednesday 29th July (today) and 5th August between 11 and 1.

Tomorrow on Thursday 30th July we have our lunchtime time on the Lancaster Canal upstairs in The Sanctuary between 12:30 and 1:30 Don’t forget to to bring your butties !

Our Thursday Craft and Well-being sessions run on Thursdays 30th July (tomorrow) and 6th August between 2 and 4:45

Our last Friday evening Games night will be held in the library on Friday 31st July between 6 and 8 pm.

We are talking with a number of venues in the city to find a new home for our activities from September and once we have confirmed the details we shall publish them here.

Can any of our Lancaster young readers beat this ?

We have a super serial reader at Newport Pagnell Library! Caleb has read six books in six days to complete the . He’s now got another certificate to add to his collection. Congratulations Caleb - great reading.

To top it all off, Caleb is not only a super reader but he’s a published writer too - at the grand old age of 9 he’s written short stories and poems!
