A Busy Month On Work Placement For Molly ๐ŸŽโค๏ธ
Over the past month, weโ€™ve welcomed Molly, a work placement student from Nottingham Trent University, who is studying BSc Equine Health, Behaviour and Welfare.
Itโ€™s been an action-packed month, giving Molly the opportunity to experience lots of different aspects of life at BTRC. During her placement, she joined us for a vet day, took part in long-reining practice with our Rehabilitation Supervisor Maddy, and got involved in several events during National Racehorse Week, including our 35th Anniversary Open Day and accompanying William on his visit to the hospice.
BTRC welcomes work placement students throughout the year, providing an opportunity to gain practical experience and learn more about the care, rehabilitation and retraining of Thoroughbreds.
A huge thank you to Molly for being so helpful and willing to get stuck in throughout her time with us. We hope youโ€™ve enjoyed your placement and taken lots away from your time at BTRC!

Following on from our post earlier today introducing Vince, we wanted to share this video of Jacko Fanshawe James Fanshawe Racing
James and Jacko have supported the BTRC for many years, and when Vince needed rehabilitation following an injury, they recommended to his owner that Vince came to our spelling rehabilitation unit. Weโ€™re delighted to now be part of Vinceโ€™s journey and help him through this next stage.
We thought this video was worth sharing again as it highlights the importance of trainers and owners thinking about what happens next when a horseโ€™s racing career comes to an end and ensuring they have a suitable first step into their new life.
James and Jackoโ€™s Fred Archer Racing syndicates, run from Pegasus Stables, are another great example of the Fanshawesโ€™ wider commitment to their horses and their futures once they have retired.
Responsible aftercare is so important in helping to make sure Thoroughbreds have the right support when they leave racing, rather than being passed from home to home or ending up in unsuitable situations.
Weโ€™re incredibly grateful for the continued support of James, Jacko and everyone at Pegasus Stables and we are really looking forward to getting to know Vince and providing a rehabilitation programme for himโค๏ธ

Everyone meet Vince our new arrival to BTRCโ€™s Rehabilitation Spelling Unit, and what a handsome chap he is! ๐Ÿคฉ
Vince has joined us straight off the track following an injury, and weโ€™re looking forward to giving him the time and support he needs before helping him take his next steps. ๐Ÿ™Œ
If you didnโ€™t already know, our Spelling Facilities cater for active, injured and recently retired racehorses, as well as those facing challenges with their retraining.๐ŸŽ
If appropriate, we can also offer the option for ownership of a horse to be transferred to BTRC once they have successfully completed their rehabilitation and retraining and a suitable loaner has been found through our Loan Programme. The horse can then remain under the Charityโ€™s care for life, helping to provide a safe and secure future. Importantly, all profits from our Spelling Stables go directly towards BTRCโ€™s charitable Vulnerable Horse Programme. ๐ŸŽโค๏ธ
