BTRC has been promoting Thoroughbred Aftercare for over 35 years by providing a safety-net for rehabilitation, retraining and suitable rehoming. BTRC's Vulnerable Horse Programme is the largest programme of its kind
in the UK and offers a safety-net to any Thoroughbred found in need of assistance and help.

Yesterday, we welcomed Retraining of Racehorses team members - Vicky Vine, Director of Fundraising, Marketing & Communications, and Meg Jackson, Marketing Communications Executive, from RoR to the Centre.🤩
Following Vicky’s visit last month, Vicky was back again and she was keen to bring Meg along to see more of our work first hand, meet the team and of course the most importantly, meet our BTRC horses – especially those that are on the BTRC’s Vulnerable horse programme that is support by the RoR.💚
It was super chatting and exploring lots of ways we could collaborate to promote Thoroughbred welfare and education, and we’re looking forward to working together to showcase the work taking place at the BTRC with the support of RoR. 🙌
By sharing more of our work, we hope to highlight the importance of aftercare and the collective effort across the industry to ensure the welfare of Thoroughbreds is supported long after their racing careers come to an end.🏇🥰
We’re excited about this next chapter and have some exciting things in the pipeline, so keep your eyes peeled for our first post together, coming before Christmas! 🐴💙

Sparkles is a lovely and very beautiful girl who is happy living out, gets on well with both mares and geldings, and is quiet and easy to handle. She’s good to catch and have her feet trimmed, and can live happily barefoot.

Not sure we can quite call this a loaner success story… 😂
When we put horses out on loan, we do extensive checks. Vet checks, teeth, feet, home checks, you name it, we do it! But one thing we can’t account for is their ability to destroy a perfectly good rug… 🤦‍♀️😂
We can only apologise to poor loaner Charlotte for this absolute monstrosity, modelled by BTRC Johnni, who has clearly decided that being a zebra just isn’t for him after all! 🤣✂️🐴

BTRC Lohan and rider groom Natalie making the most of a simple pole set up that can be used in lots of different ways and tweaked to suit each horse and what you’re working on. 🐴
It’s a great way to incorporate poles into your usual schooling session without putting too much pressure on having to do loads of them. For Lohan, we’re focusing on gradually building his strength, and exercises like these are a great way to work towards that while keeping things varied!
For this set up, we’re using our PolyJumps cavaletti blocks, mini blocks and polepods, all fabulous products for mixing up your polework exercises! 💪🐴
