Another amazing Apple Day! So fantastic to see so many people enjoying the good weather and saving so many kilograms of apples from going to waste. Will you use your apples in your own recipes? Please tag us if you do - we’d love to see! Thank you to all those who joined us at Speke Hall today for Apple Day🍎

An incredible day where we saved tonnes of apples from going to waste.

A huge thank you to Food For Thought Merseyside Ltd (Not-For-Profit) for their wonderful apple crumble, Ben Ruth for the lovely apple juice and Jay from the Old Swan Seedbank for providing crafts all day.

Also a big thank you to Zero Waste LCR. Their funding made this day possible. And of course to NT Speke Hall for working with us on the day.

And thank you to all our brilliant volunteers who we couldn't have managed without!

This year we were also joined by Queen of Greens, where customers could buy fresh fruit and veg all day.

🍏 APPLE DAY IS HERE! 🍏

Join us today at Speke Hall from 10am for a celebration of all things apple!

Help harvest apples from the orchard, enjoy delicious homemade crumble, sip freshly pressed juice, take a bag of apples home, and help make sure this amazing fruit doesn't go to waste.

🚌 The Queen of Greens will be joining us today. Come and say hello and learn more about the service.

💚 You can also support our crowdfunder to replace one of our buses and make a donation at the event today.

Help us keep the Queen of Greens moving! 🚌 🥦

We've launched a crowdfunder to help keep the Queen of Greens on the road. One of our two buses keeps breaking down, and we need your help for a reliable replacement. 

Each time one of the buses is off the road, we struggle reaching our stops across Liverpool and Knowsley. Our goal is £20,000 for a reliable replacement bus. The good news is we only need to raise £10,000 through donations. Thanks to the Communities Fund, part of the Aviva UK Foundation, every individual donation is matched pound-for-pound, up to £250 per person, for the next six weeks (until 12th November).

This year alone, the Queen of Greens has welcomed over 10,000 customers from stops at children's centres to hospitals. We want to keep the service going, ensuring communities continue to have access to fresh, affordable fruit and vegetables.

🗓️Mark your calendars: we'll be at Apple Day this Saturday (3rd October) at Speke Hall if you fancy saying hi and donating in person.

Apple Day 2026🌳

Please read if you're planning to join us!

We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Speke Hall for Apple Day. The hot weather over summer means the orchard has had a smaller yield of apples than previous years. Please be aware the day will begin at 11am and will end when the apples run out which may be sooner than usual.
We will be making apple crumble & fresh apple juice on the day, and you will be welcome to take apples home with you.

The event and activities are free but the admission fee to Speke Hall is required.

Why are there less apples this year? 🍏

Across the UK apple harvests are down, with many orchards seeing less yield than previous years.

Extreme heatwaves and drought over the summer months have affected the way apples have grown, ripened and been harvested.
Our apples at Speke Hall are no different and this year there is a smaller yield.

Our food system faces challenges, and we need long-term improvements to strengthen food security in the UK. However, supporting local initiatives and growers is one way you can help.

Come along to Apple Day to meet some of the organisations improving the food system across Merseyside, including Queen of Greens and Food For Thought Merseyside Ltd (Not-For-Profit)

11am- onwards (until the apples run out!)

Join us NT Speke Hall to harvest this year's orchard apples. Help us to stop the apples going to waste.

We will be joined again by Food For Thought Merseyside Ltd (Not-For-Profit) and this year will also have Queen of Greens on site for customers to buy other fresh fruit and veg.
