The Gathering

As we continue our week of prayer and fasting, we are focusing on the words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, who believes that "The church is only the church, when it is the church for others". The Gathering has four founding principals. Whilst our weekly services are focused on Authentic Worship and Relevant Teaching. We also look outside of the building, ensuring that the church exists to serve the local community, working to build 'Real Connection' and take part in 'Meaningful Action'. Our prayers this week are focused around these principals, the opportunities that come from them, the relationships we can build by relying on them, and the difference we can make by not wavering from our calling. With God's help, the name of Jesus will not only be taught, but displayed in our local community. Amen.

Thank you to all of those who will be joining us in this weeks fasting and 9am prayer

Genesis 12 tells us about the call of Abraham. The scripture tells us that Abraham and his household are firstly called by God. Called to leave behind their comfort zone and go with God to an unknown place, an unknown destination. A journey that will require faith and trust, because God will show them on the way.

After the call comes the promise, "I will make you a great nation".

Following the promise comes the Blessing. "I will bless you; I will make your name great".

And following the blessing comes the purpose. "and you will be a blessing".

Let us start our week of fasting and prayer remembering that first and foremost, we are blessed to be a blessing to others. Not to remain in our places of comfort, not to look inwardly at what we are trying to build, but to look outwardly, at what purpose God has for us.

Help us pray today to identify those areas of calling, those areas of purpose and how we are blessed as a Christian community. Pray that the Holy Spirit will show us those areas and provide us with the opportunities to use our blessings to be a blessing to our local community.

Following last weeks unscheduled service, today The Gathering starts it's series taking a look at some of the Women in the Bible. Coffee and cake from 3.30pm and worship service starts at 4pm.

For those who could not join us this Sunday, God derailed our planned service to invite us into a new season. It was a moment of great sadness, but also of great expectation. We are excited to see what God will do in this new season, but one thing is for sure, something is springing up. Hope to see you on Sunday as we press into what God has for us at The Gathering.

Following a busy summer, The Gathering returns to normal this Sunday as we begin a series looking at and learning from "Women in the Bible". Join us from 3.30pm for coffee and cake, hope to see you there.

A huge thank you to everyone who came and supported our Foodbank Fundraiser. Despite the weather, a huge amount of food and money was raised and a lot of fun was had. 160kg of food which will go directly to local people in need and £328.21 to help support the work of Leek & District Foodbank. The local church and the local community at its best.

Looks like the weather is going to be against us for tomorrow's Foodbank Fundraiser, but not to worry, we will still be going ahead. There will just be a smaller version in doors but Bouncy Castle, Soft Play, Bubble Disco, games, and crafts will still be available as well as being able to enjoy Sausage Sandwiches and Cakes. Hope to see you there.

A Huge thank you to everyone who has supported our Summer of Hope series. Last weeks picnic and comedy magic show was fantastic and we are so pleased so many of you could join us. We have one last summer event which will be a Food Bank Fundraiser. Bouncy castle, Bubble Disco, Soft Play and all kinds of food and activities to enjoy. All free of charge but donation points are available to collect long lasting food items or cash donations on behalf of the Leek Food Bank. Hope you can join us.
