🚨 ONLY A FEW APPOINTMENTS REMAIN! 🚨

We’re delighted to welcome HumanWare to the Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire Resource Centre on Wednesday 16th September for a dedicated Braille Technology Demonstration Day and appointments are already filling up!

10:00am – 2:00pm

This is a fantastic opportunity to see, explore and try some of HumanWare’s latest and most popular Braille technology, with expert demonstrations and the chance to ask questions about the products and technology available.

We only have a few appointment slots remaining for our Demo Day with Humanware on Wednesday 16th , so if you’re interested, we’d encourage you to get in touch as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

To book your appointment, call 01482 342 297 and ask to speak with Phil.

Whether you’re a Braille user looking to discover what’s new, considering technology to support your reading and writing, or supporting someone who is, this is a great opportunity to see the technology up close and in action.

Don’t miss out, the remaining spaces are limited!

We look forward to welcoming you to the Resource Centre on 16th September.

Thank you to everyone who donated prizes and took part in our Summer Raffle, it was a great success! We are extremely grateful for everyone’s help, allowing us to raise an incredible £1,107. This helps us continue our work supporting people living with sight loss across Hull and East Yorkshire.

We are delighted to congratulate all of our prize winners. A full list of winners can be found here: https://bit.ly/SummerRaffleWinners. We would also like to give a special mention to Kevin Northey, who was the lucky winner of our first prize: VIP tickets to the David Bowie Tribute Concert at Connexin Live, Hull.

This year’s draw would not have been possible without the generosity of our supporters and local businesses. We would like to say a special thank you to Connexin Live for their fantastic support and for donating our star prize. We are also extremely grateful to the many local companies and businesses that kindly donated prizes, helping to make the draw such a success.

The Great North Run is getting closer, and we’re continuing to shine a spotlight on the incredible supporters generously running in aid of Sight Support. We’d like to introduce another runner, Amy Gray, who is taking on the challenge this September and has shared what supporting Sight Support means to her!

In her words, she says “I’ve completed a couple of half marathons before, but if I’m honest, it’s been a long time since I’ve run properly. A couple of months ago, even 5k felt like a real challenge, so the last few months have taken plenty of commitment, consistency and determination. I’m raising money for an incredible local charity, Sight Support Hull & East Yorkshire. What makes this charity special is that the money raised stays local, helping people across Hull and East Yorkshire who are living with sight loss. They provide practical support, advice, social opportunities and services that make a real difference to people’s lives. As someone who is passionate about supporting our local community, I wanted to challenge myself while raising funds for a cause that has such a direct impact on local people.”

If you would like to support Amy’s run and help raise crucial funds for Sight Support, please donate using the link below for her fundraising page:

We need your help!

Do you like a good chat? Can you spare an hour a week to call a visually impaired person to help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation?

We have a number of service users who are waiting for a telephone befriender. If you can help, please email us at [email protected] for an informal chat. Full training will be provided for this role, and a criminal records check will be completed.

We had a lovely day out at East Riding Leisure Withernsea on Wednesday! It was a steady day, but it was great to be out in the community, having a chat with those who came to see us and others who wanted to find out more about what we do.

A big thank you to the team at East Riding Leisure Withernsea for having us! 🙌

We’ll be sure to let you know when our next outreach is happening and you never know, it could be near you

Could you give a little time to make a big difference?

We are looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to help us support local people living with sight loss. Whether you can spare an hour, an afternoon, or a little time each month, there could be a role to suit you.

We have a variety of volunteering opportunities available, including assisting in the Day Groups, maintaining the upkeep of our Gardens, becoming an Administrative Volunteer, taking part in Fundraising Collections, and so many more!

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, develop skills, and know that you are making a real difference in your local community.

If you can help, please email us at [email protected] for an informal chat. Full training will be provided for this role, and a criminal records check will be completed.

Your time could help someone feel more connected, confident and supported!

As the Great North Run is getting closer, we’d like to share a few words from our supporters that are generously running in aid of Sight Support. Harriet Hollyman, one of our Trustee’s, is taking part in the Great North Run in September and has told us what it means to her!

In her words, she says “I joined Sight Support as a Trustee earlier this year and have seen first-hand the incredible difference the charity makes to service users within our local community. It’s a wonderful feeling to be able to give back to a charity that has supported members of my own family in the past, and I’m proud to be able to contribute to such an important cause.”

If you would like to support Harriet’s run and help raise crucial funds for Sight Support, please donate using the link below for her JustGiving page:
