Did you know there’s a national Tick Surveillance Scheme in the UK you can take part in?

It has been tracking ticks since 2005, helping the UK Health Security Agency understand their distribution, seasonal activity, and which species pose the greatest risk to humans and animals.

By sending in a tick you find on yourself, a pet, or wildlife, you’re helping:
• Monitor tick distribution and seasonality nationwide
• Identify the diversity of ticks affecting humans and animals
• Detect non-native or rare UK tick species
• Contribute to distribution maps that support research and public health assessments

All records are publicly available via the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) gateway, meaning your contribution helps scientists, vets, and health professionals better understand tick exposure trends over time.

📬 Getting involved is simple — submit a tick with details of where and when it was found and help protect people and animals across the UK.
Every tick you send is a step toward stronger awareness, safer communities, and better public health.

Supporting someone with Lyme disease isn’t always straightforward.

Living with a long-term illness can have a significant impact on emotional wellbeing, and we know from members of our Online Community that it can sometimes be difficult to find counsellors and therapists who understand the experiences of people living with, or caring for someone with, Lyme disease.

That’s why Lyme Disease UK has created a guide specifically for counsellors and therapists.

It explores some of the challenges and experiences that people with longer-term Lyme disease may face, helping professionals better understand the wider impact of the illness and provide informed, compassionate support.

While global research continues to investigate pressing issues around diagnosis, treatment, and persistent symptoms, more work must take place closer to home. Examining the specific traits of the Borrelia species causing disease right here in the UK will provide the essential foundational knowledge required to help design more effective interventions.

This work will provide the crucial data needed to fuel larger research grant proposals and build world-class expertise in Cambridge. As interest among UK researchers continues to grow, it will help to pave the way for improved tests and treatment for UK patients.

We’ve shared this photo before, but honestly… it’s too useful not to share again!

A 5p coin, with ticks of various sizes alongside it, is a pretty good reminder of just how tiny ticks can be.

Whilst in the nymph stage, they can be as small as a poppy seed, so it’s worth taking a moment to check yourself, your children and your pets after spending time outdoors.
