We will be writing to all politicians across the UK Parliament, Scottish Parliament, Senedd and the Northern Ireland Assembly before summer recess 2026 - calling for better promotion of tick bite prevention information to schools, constituents and local health organisations.

We’re asking our community to get involved too. If you’re able, please consider sending your own email or letter around the same time - it really helps create visibility and momentum when messages arrive together.

This campaign is focused on prevention and early symptom awareness as a first step. We absolutely recognise that for many in our community, the priority is diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care - and there is still a long way to go.

Prevention is not a replacement for that work, but it is one way to start opening conversations and improving early recognition.

If possible, please send your letter before Friday 3rd July 2026, to align with our coordinated outreach.

📣 A huge thank you to St Mary's Calne for choosing Lyme Disease UK as the beneficiary of their final Home Clothes Day of the school year!

It was a pleasure to join the school remotely in Chapel earlier this week to share more about Lyme disease and the work of our charity.

We're incredibly grateful to the students, staff, and wider school community for their generosity and for helping to raise awareness of Lyme disease. 💚

Thank you, St Mary's, for making a difference!

We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Morven-May MacCallum MSP on her maiden speech in the Scottish Parliament.

Her first contribution was both powerful and deeply personal, and we commend her for speaking openly about her lived experience of chronic illness, including Lyme disease. By bringing her story into the chamber, she has helped shine a light on the reality faced by many people living with long-term and often misunderstood conditions.

Her speech was a moving reminder of the importance of lived experience in shaping policy, and of the need for greater awareness, recognition, and compassion within healthcare systems. Too many patients continue to face delays in diagnosis, limited treatment options, and a lack of understanding - issues that urgently need attention at all levels of government.

We are grateful to see these issues being raised in Parliament, and we thank Morven-May MacCallum for using her platform to speak so thoughtfully and sincerely on behalf of those affected.

Lyme Disease UK wishes her every success in her work as an MSP and looks forward to seeing her continued advocacy on chronic illness and patient care.

Did you know there’s a national Tick Surveillance Scheme in the UK you can take part in?

It has been tracking ticks since 2005, helping the UK Health Security Agency understand their distribution, seasonal activity, and which species pose the greatest risk to humans and animals.

By sending in a tick you find on yourself, a pet, or wildlife, you’re helping:
• Monitor tick distribution and seasonality nationwide
• Identify the diversity of ticks affecting humans and animals
• Detect non-native or rare UK tick species
• Contribute to distribution maps that support research and public health assessments

All records are publicly available via the National Biodiversity Network (NBN) gateway, meaning your contribution helps scientists, vets, and health professionals better understand tick exposure trends over time.

📬 Getting involved is simple — submit a tick with details of where and when it was found and help protect people and animals across the UK.
Every tick you send is a step toward stronger awareness, safer communities, and better public health.

This is a huge milestone for Lyme disease and tick bite awareness.

Working with Healthpoint TV we’ve proudly shared our “Be Tick Aware” animation across more than 800 pharmacy screens throughout the UK - and it’s been shown an incredible 1,037,396 times!

That’s over a million moments of awareness reaching people exactly where it matters most: in their local pharmacies, in their communities, in everyday life. Simple, visible reminders that can genuinely make a difference.

We’re especially grateful to Healthpoint TV for extending our booking and continuing to back the campaign - your support has helped amplify this message far beyond what we imagined.

A big thank you to the Royal Bath and West Show for sharing this update with us:

“Many thanks for providing high quality posters and leaflets. The posters were displayed the in front of the Safety Zone building, next to the South West Ambulance Trust stand.

We distributed 170 leaflets and of the two posters, we found the Symptoms of Lyme Disease poster to be the one which drew most attention. This allowed discussion of the advice points shown in the Protect Yourself from Tick Bites poster. It was surprising how many people have encountered ticks, and many are keen to pick up current advice.”

We’re delighted to have had the opportunity to display our materials at such a huge scale event - around 100k people are typically in attendance.

If you’re involved in any upcoming events and would like to display information like this, we’d love to support you. Get in touch to find out how we can help bring awareness materials to your event.

📻 We were delighted to have the opportunity to speak with BBC Scotland this week, helping to raise awareness of tick bite prevention and the early signs and symptoms of Lyme disease.

A huge thank you to BBC Scotland for providing a platform for Lyme Disease UK to share this important public health information. As people spend more time outdoors this summer, knowing how to avoid tick bites, check for ticks, and recognise potential symptoms of Lyme disease is more important than ever.

A huge thank you to Joanne White, Daniel Newton, Michelle Brown and Laura Goldsmith for fundraising £6,400 so far following the London Marathon 2026! An amazing achievement by those who have either battled the illness themselves, or run in support of loved ones and friends.

In addition to the marathon and the 32 mile Haworth Hobble in March, Jo will be also tackling a brutal 109 mile Montane Summer Spine race along the iconic Pennine Way on 13 June! We’re blown away by Jo’s commitment to helping Lyme patients!
