As a funeral celebrant, resilience is something you learn every day. Some days, though, are harder than others.

This Sunday brought two family consultations - one for someone I had previously worked alongside - while also receiving three notifications of the deaths of a family member and close friends.

Moments like these remind me that those of us who support others through grief also carry our own losses, our own emotions, and our own lives beyond the role we fulfil.

I’m grateful for colleagues who understand that deeply. One close colleague, a Funeral Director, has a team board in their office with caricatures of arrangers, directors, celebrants and ministers, including hers and mine. A simple but powerful reminder that behind every professional title is a real person, with a life beyond the job.

In this profession, supporting one another matters just as much as supporting the families we serve.

Weddings are powerful moments of connection and they can also be thoughtful, inclusive, and kind to the earth. From reducing waste to embracing diverse traditions and communities, every choice we make can reflect care, respect, and intention.

As a celebrant, I’m committed to creating ceremonies that celebrate love in all its forms while treading lightly and thoughtfully on the world we share.

Because a truly meaningful wedding doesn’t just unite two people, it uplifts community and respects the earth that holds us all.
