Over the past 7 weeks, we’ve introduced you to the incredible people who make up Team Darcy, who didn’t hesitate to sign up for a trek to raise money for
We want to thank them all and every one of you who has donated so far.
Now it’s our turn.
Like any partnership, ours has had its bumps in the road. But losing Darcy wasn’t a bump; it was the road disappearing beneath us. Trauma like this could break most people and there are days it threatens to break us, too. Our bond is strong and we are holding it together, though sometimes, inside, we are crumbling.
It’s been 40 years since our first holiday together in Cornwall and we’ve come to know that stretch of coast as the place where we can find a sense of peace and breathe with long walks along empty beaches in the off-season, sailing when the sun is shining and the water is glassy. Then there’s the magic of dolphins that sometimes appear alongside us when we’re out on the water. None of it fixes anything, but it reminds us that beauty still exists and that we still get to share it.
Saying Darcy’s name out loud, often, keeps her present with us. It’s also what fuels our determination to help the many young people who need mental health support and ultimately, to save young lives.
It’s the extremely difficult times that show you who is really there for you and who isn’t. The pool of people around us has shrunk. It’s been a painful thing to learn, but we’ve made peace with it.
What matters most now is keeping our two eldest children front and centre, supporting them, helping them navigate their own paths, and learning together how to live without Darcy here with us.
As of this morning, we’ve reached 16% of our £100k target. We have a long way to go, but we’re determined to get there, and we have some fantastic mini fundraising initiatives on the way. Awareness is building. More conversations are taking place. That, in itself, already matters.
Please follow the journey, share it and if you can, donate. Every conversation, every pound, every share helps another young person stay here.
