Keeping Sam’s memory alive means making Ilkeston Market Place safer, and that means a DATE.
Nearly three years on from the night we lost Sam Wilson, a brilliant young footballer and proper gentleman taken in the most senseless way, the family and community are still waiting for Derbyshire County Council to actually deliver the permanent barriers they’ve finally agreed to.
We’ve heard the “yes”. We’ve seen the commitment. What we haven’t had is a clear date for when those bollards will go in. Saying yes and then going quiet isn’t good enough, not when people are still gathering in the same spot and vehicles can still access it.
Adam Thompson MP has fought hard alongside the family. Thousands signed the petition. The community has stayed with this. Now we need DCC to stop the drift and put a proper timeline on the table.
If you’re local, share this. Tag the council. Keep the conversation going. Barriers that actually get installed are the only real way to honour Sam and stop anything like this happening again.
Sam deserved better. The people of Ilkeston still do.
