As we marked the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, The Cabrach Trust was honoured to attend the Beating Retreat ceremony at Aberdeen’s Gordon Highlanders Museum on Friday evening.

The story of The Cabrach is intertwined with the sacrifices of the Gordon Highlanders. Through two world wars, generations of men and boys left this community to serve. Many never returned. Their loss contributed to the decline of The Cabrach that we are working to reverse today.

As the pipes played, we remembered their service, sacrifice, and enduring legacy.

What a great evening we had at The Cabrach Stitch Group last night.

Claire from came along to give us an inspiring talk about her independent wool business and her beautiful yarns ahead of our next 4 week knitting workshop, learning the Love Note sweater.

Our Cabrach Stitch Group meets every Tuesday in the Acorn and everyone is very welcome to come along, bring your own stitch projects and be part of the community.

It was a great pleasure to take The Cabrach Tweed along to the Aberdeen Stitch & Textile Group last month and talk about the project, community engagement and regeneration.

Projects such as these bring our community together, provide opportunities to get involved and make new friendships.

The inspiration comes from the place, the creativity comes from its people.

The weather was reasonably good to us on Sunday morning for our Ranger Ramble led by Dorenell Ranger Service & Visitor Centre followed by breakfast at The Acorn.

Attendees were treated to the early morning calls of wadding birds in the Upper Cabrach and then headed down the hill for a talk, a little folklore and a hearty breakfast roll and hot drink.

We hope to have more of these morning walks and breakfasts so keep an eye out for announcements 👀

The Cabrach Stitch Group have been learning to knit socks 🧦 over the last 3 weeks. We now have 10 new sock knitters in our community!

Community regeneration wears many hats, and now socks…. Apparently 😃
