The Aberdeenshire Community Recovery (ACR) is a organisation which is delivered with a ‘grassroots’ approach utilising experiential community members to gain from their knowledge and understanding of what is required to develop and grow this Lived Experience Recovery Organisation (LERO)
The key aim of the ACR is to acknowledge any

social determinants of problematic substance use and mental health issues and to create safe environments that promote healthier behaviours and support recovery with a person centre and strength-based approach that demonstrates valued, safe and informed recovery-orientated practice. The ACR is directed specifically for the provision of community-based support through peer mentors to individuals, families, and small groups navigating personal and social challenges; but also incorporate provision for those in early recovery by giving the opportunity to expand on their potential. The ACR is aimed at anyone who is or has been directly or indirectly affected by problematic substance use, or considers their use of drugs and/or alcohol or their mental health to be impacting on their everyday life. The ACR is not only a safe space to nurture the development, health, and capacity of community members but also to provide one-to-one experiential support to people who are in earlier stages of recovery.

This lovely lady will be sorely missed by many including many within the recovery community of Aberdeenshire. A lot of you here will recognise her from the many years she dedicated to the South Forum as a family member.
At the beginning of this year we were in discussion with Carole regarding hosting a traveling recovery cafe in the far reaches of Deeside. Jillian Dow &Diane Ord attended her funeral service today showing respect for all that Carole did for the recovery community. 💖

It is with kind permission from the family that we share the following notice:

PATERSON
(Braemar)

Carole passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at ARI on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. Beloved mum of Kirsteen, Iain-Neil, Sarah and Amanda, much-loved granny of Molly, Saul, Joel, Ellie and Katie, dear partner of David and a cherished friend to many. Sadly missed by all. Requiem Mass to be held at St Andrew’s RC Church, Braemar on Thursday, April 9 at 12.30pm to which all friends are respectfully invited. Thereafter cremation private. Family flowers only please but donations, if desired, to Braemar Care and Braemar 3rd Age Group. Rest in Peace.
