From this ➡️ to this...
It was a great achievement with the help of regular and corporate volunteers to revamp the picnic area by removing the weeds and adding more woodchip. What a great place to enjoy your lunch after a busy morning in the tree nursery!

Opposite-leaved golden saxifrage (Chrysosplenium oppositifolium) it’s quite a long name! If you have spotted any spring flowers you may see these nearby. They are often found close to running water in shady areas. They have small green golden flowers on very small plants which attracts pollinators.

One thing that we spot quite frequently throughout winter is a hibernating queen wasp. During winter queen wasps will find a safe space to sleep. This might be in sheds, in between pots or like this little one, in a cozy leaf. They usually don’t wake up unless you really disturb them, so if we see them we will simply place them somewhere safe!

A peaceful moment at the tree nursery. See what you notice...

The white flowers of the Wood Anemone which you will see at the beginning of spring and are a sign of ancient woodland.

Hearing the sound of the water flowing and birds singing.

Glimpsing the first bit of sunshine showing the yellow Hazel catkins and Lesser Celandine below.
