HPS Clwyd - Hardy Plant Society   Clwyd Group The local group for Clwyd, North Wales of the Hardy Plant Society. Meetings in Halkyn Cricket Club There are also plant sales at meetings and a raffle. CH8 8BS.

We meet once a month to discuss our plants and gardens, chat with friends over a cuppa and listen to a visiting speaker - usually an expert on a particular subject. Visitors are welcome, usually £3 admission. Meetings take place in Halkyn Cricket Club, Pentre Road, Holywell, Flintshire. Only 0.5 ml from the A*5 exit 32a west/32 east. Doors open 7.0pm for plant sales and refreshments, talks start a

This illustrated talk is entitled 'Ashwood Specialities' by Nigel Hopes.
Nigel has been Head Gardener in John Massey’s Private Garden at Ashwood Nurseries in the West Midlands since 2018.
His talk gives an overview of some of the wonderful plants Ashwood Nurseries is renowned for including Hellebores, Hepaticas, Cyclamen, Salvia, Hydrangea, Snowdrops and more. There is truly something for everyone in this talk and plants for sale.

The Plant Fair is in the Sport’s Hall at our new venue since 2025, the Holywell Leisure Centre, CH8 7UZ, from 11am to 2pm. There is more space for more plants and plenty of room to move around. Disabled Access.
Among the local nurseries attending are the brand-new nursery Rosemeade from Holt, Chicken Street Plants from Oswestry, Woodfield nursery from Cheshire, ABC&S nursery from St Asaph, Maxine’s Plants from Conwy, an extra stall this year is Garry the Gardener from Abakhan Mostyn and the HPS Clwyd plant stall.
While stocks last there will be for example rare and familiar plants, annuals and perennials, bedding and vegetable plants, acers, ferns, hostas, grasses, hydrangeas, succulents and so much more.
The HPS stall is cash only. All stalls take cash, and some stalls have card machines depending on Wi-Fi signal. The nearest cashpoint/ATM is at Tesco.

The illustrated talk is entitled 'What have Plants Done For Us?' by Chelsea Gold Medalist Tracy Foster.
In this talk we take a look at some of the vital plants used for medicine, fabrics, food and fuel and the influential people who discovered them.
Tracy Foster has a degree in plant biology and has worked as a mentor and director for the Society of Garden Designers. She has written a book on gardening in retirement and runs garden design workshops for the RHS as well as working as a botanical tour guide and running her garden design business in Leeds.

The illustrated talk is entitled 'On the Shady Side' by Jill Cawthray.
Jill has a degree in environmental sciences and much experience in conservation and education having worked for the Field Studies Council, Shropshire Wildlife Trust and through teaching geography and the environment in several schools and colleges. She also has a formal horticulture qualification with the RHS Advanced Certificate. She runs Chicken Street Plants Nursery with husband Andy in Oswestry. There will be plants for sale.

The talk is entitled ‘Fireworks and Streams' by Dawn Gough.
What is colour theory? It’s more than just looking at the colour wheel. This talk covers how colours work together or don’t. Do you want hot colours to invite you into a seating area or cool colours to relax in? Do you know how to use highlight colours or tints and shades? The talk is illustrated with lots of lovely planting pictures. Dawn is a former teacher and lecturer and chair of Chirk gardening club. She has made 6 of her own cottage gardens.
