A fantastic Old Scottish Night at Prodesse Lodge No. 8678

What a fantastic evening of Freemasonry, friendship, laughter and brotherhood as Prodesse Lodge came together to celebrate our Worshipful Master John Aitken with a very special Old Scottish Night!

The evening held particular significance for John, who first hosted an Old English Night back in 1995 during his first year in the Chair. Over 30 years later, the brethren of Prodesse wanted to recreate a special occasion and change it to an Old Scottish Night and make it another night to remember.

The meeting began with a wonderful Second Degree ceremony for Bro Carl Jackson, with our Worshipful Master handing over the gavel to W.Bro David Goulden, who delivered the ceremony with warmth, sincerity and some excellent ritual.

Following the meeting, the brethren and our many welcome visitors gathered for a Scottish themed festive board, where the celebrations really got underway!

Our Assistant Director of Ceremonies, W.Bro Ryan Mangnall, had everyone laughing with a light hearted quiz all about John, bringing plenty of smiles, friendly competition and a few new facts about John, mostly his favourite Scottish swear words.

The room was filled with laughter, friendship and that wonderful sense of brotherhood that makes evenings like these so special.

To make the evening even better over ÂŁ300 was raised for charity! A fantastic achievement and a reflection of the generosity of everyone who attended.

From all the brethren of Prodesse Lodge, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to our visitors, friends and everyone who helped make the evening such a success.

It was a pleasure to welcome you all and we sincerely hope you’ll come back and join us again soon.

A Wonderful Evening at Corinthian Chapter No. 2350

It was a wonderful evening of companionship, friendship and celebration as Corinthian Chapter No. 2350 held its annual Installation at Hindley Masonic Hall.

Congratulations to Jonathon Lever, Peter Newell and Martin Davies, who were installed as First, Second and Third Principals all taking their respective chairs for the first time.

The ceremony was beautifully conducted, with some excellent addresses and plenty of warmth and humour throughout the evening.

Generosity was also at the heart of the occasion, with ÂŁ400 donated to three worthy causes: Hindley Masonic Hall, All Ears Charity and Daffodils Dreams. A further ÂŁ160 was raised through the festive board raffle.

The evening was made even more special by the presence of distinguished guests, including Michael Threlfall, who conveyed the best wishes of the Grand Superintendent, Mark Matthews.

A fantastic evening enjoyed by all, filled with laughter, friendship and true Masonic spirit.

W.Bro Ryan Mangnall of Prodesse Lodge 8678 Rough Ashlar Challenge is coming to an end.

Taking part in the Rough Ashlar Challenge has been a rewarding and an emotional experience in my Masonic journey.

The challenge began in 2025 with the aim of raising awareness of men's mental health encouraging open conversations and raising much needed funds for worthy causes.

Three Freemasons from different parts of the country have taken part in the challenge and together we have raised a fantastic ÂŁ10,825.

I am incredibly proud to have personally raised ÂŁ2,786, which will be split equally between the Masonic Charitable Foundation (MCF) and my local Andy's Man Club in Hindley with each charity receiving ÂŁ1,393.

However, for me this challenge has always been about much more than raising money.

Visiting different lodges, meeting brethren and having the opportunity to speak openly about men's mental health has had a profound impact on me personally. Some of the conversations have been incredibly moving and I have been humbled by the openness, honesty and support shown by the brethren I have met along the way.

Mental health is something we should never be afraid to talk about. As Freemasons we speak of brotherly love, relief and truth and I believe this challenge has demonstrated those principles in a very real and meaningful way.

If sharing my experiences has encouraged even one brother to speak about his own struggles or helped someone realise that they do not have to face difficult times alone, then the challenge has achieved something far greater than any fundraising total.

I finish this challenge feeling incredibly proud, grateful and above all privileged to have been part of it. My Rough Ashlar Challenge may have come to an end, but the conversations it has started must continue. I encourage any brethren who wish to contribute and carry on the challenge to reach out.

Wigan & Leigh Group Membership Officers Visit London

The Metropolitan Grand Lodge Membership Officers Lodge (Lewis Lodge No. 1185) recently held a special meeting celebrating excellence in Lodge Membership.

The Metropolitan Grand Master presented Certificates of Excellence to Brothers Mark Alleyne, Kuljip Jheeta and Alex Shoolman, recognising their outstanding contributions as Lodge Membership Officers.

With over 130 brethren in attendance, the meeting provided a fantastic opportunity to share ideas, experiences and best practices for supporting the future growth of Freemasonry.

Wigan & Leigh Group Membership Officers, W.Bro Gordon Cooke and W.Bro Ryan Mangnall, made the journey to London to attend this special occasion.

Both described the visit as a fantastic opportunity and returned with valuable knowledge, fresh ideas and experiences that they hope to put into practice to strengthen membership across the Wigan & Leigh Group.

Preserving Our History

During the Corinthian Borsdane 2350 meeting on Thursday 1st October, W.Bro Ryan Mangnall of Prodesse Lodge 8678 had the honour of presenting two beautifully restored historical frames to the remaining members of Borsdane Lodge 6460.

The frames were discovered during a recent hall maintenance day and, although showing their age were too important to allow their history to be lost. Over the past few weeks Ryan has carefully restored both frames to their former glory. The restoration has involved casting, moulding and many hours of painstaking painting, bringing these important pieces of Borsdane’s history back to life.

One frame contains an updated list of the Worshipful Masters of Borsdane Lodge, while the second holds an original photograph of the founding members, accompanied by a Worshipful Master’s Jewel and Founder’s Jewel — a wonderful glimpse into the history and brethren who helped establish the Lodge.

Hindley Masonic Hall has recently been fortunate enough to inherit a number of historical items from Pemberton Masonic Hall, which we are incredibly proud to have on display. The addition of these beautifully restored frames is another important piece of that collection.

Photographed receiving the frames is Worshipful Master Neil Whittle & W.Bro Geoffrey Porter who agree that it is fantastic to see these items being preserved and proudly displayed within our hall ensuring that the history and traditions of Freemasonry in our area continue to be remembered and appreciated by future generations.

A huge thank you to W.Bro Ryan Mangnall for the time, skill and dedication that has gone into restoring these pieces of history.
