‘The Things You Don’t See.’ Sometimes the hardest part is explaining what isn’t visible. I live with AuDHD. And that means the world can look very different for me beneath the surface. It’s not that I don’t want to start things, sometimes, I just can’t. My brain doesn’t always know when to switch off. I can become so passionate about an idea that I lose myself in it. I plan, I dream, I see possibilities. But when it comes to actually doing the thing, It can feel like climbing a mountain. And my feelings? Woah. They’re real, even when they’re hard to explain. I care deeply, but I also get overwhelmed. I need quiet. Sometimes, I need space. Sometimes, I just need to sit still and breathe. And then there are these waves of sadness when I look back and see the years that I spent criticising myself. For struggles I didn’t understand yet. I’m learning, bit by bit, to hold both sides. My strengths and my difficult days. Neither cancels the other out. And I’m starting to think that maybe I don’t need to apologise for that. If any of this feels familiar to you, just know you don’t have to get everything right. You don’t have to hide your struggles to make anyone else more comfortable.

What if the person you think is difficult is actually finding things difficult?

We don’t always see what someone else is dealing with.

The colleague who seems distracted.
The employee who struggles with unexpected changes.
The person who goes quiet in meetings.
The individual who appears to cope all day, only to feel completely drained afterwards.

We see the behaviour. We don’t always understand the experience behind it.

Neurodiversity isn’t about giving people a free pass. It’s about understanding that people can think, communicate, learn and process the world differently.

And as leaders, colleagues and employers, we have a choice.

We can judge what we don’t understand, or we can take the time to understand it.

💬 I’d genuinely love to hear your thoughts:

What’s ONE thing you wish more people understood about neurodiversity in the workplace?

You don’t need to share a diagnosis or anything personal. It could be something you’ve experienced, witnessed or learned along the way.

Let’s create a conversation where people feel heard, not judged.

♻️ Share this with someone who believes a better workplace starts with better understanding.

Look what Wigan Council have shared 💜

The Women’s Gynaecology Project I led the creative research for through LSoC has been featured as a case study.

I worked alongside Leigh Soroptimists, using creative workshops and body mapping to give women a way to share their experiences that felt comfortable for them. The graphic brings together what women shared across both pieces of work.

Across the whole project, 230 women were engaged and 101 shared their experiences. The findings have been shared with local health partners, and community researchers presented them to the Sexual Health Strategic Partnership Board.

It means a lot to see the creative research and women’s voices being recognised 💜
