We had a lovely visit yesterday to see the launch of the new ECLO (Eye Care Liaison Officer) room at Sunderland Eye Infirmary. We enjoyed a tour of the new space, finding out more about the support available and, of course, putting some faces to names! 💚

It was great to see the work being done to support people living with sight loss and the importance of making sure people can access the right information, advice and support when they need it.

A big thank you to everyone who welcomed us and took the time to show us around. 💚

⚾️🥉 Bronze medal success for Team GB!

We’re incredibly proud to see Hartlepool’s blind baseball team playing such an important role in the Team GB squad, who recently brought home a bronze medal from a cup competition in Italy! 🇬🇧👏

It’s fantastic to see the talent, teamwork and determination of our local players recognised on an international stage. A brilliant achievement for everyone involved!

👓 Meta Glasses: 3 ways they can support people with sight loss 💚

At Hartlepool Vision Support, we’re exploring how accessible technology can make a difference in everyday life.

Meta glasses offer a range of features that can help people with visual impairments, from accessing information to connecting with support when it’s needed.

Here are three benefits we’ve been exploring:

🔎 Understanding what’s around you – AI can describe objects and provide spoken information about items in front of you.

🙌 Keeping your hands free – Voice commands let users access supported features without needing to constantly reach for their phone.

🤝 An extra helping hand – Through Be My Eyes, users can connect with sighted volunteers for assistance with everyday tasks.

Technology won’t be the right solution for everyone, but exploring the options available is an important part of helping people find the support that works for them.

Today we revisited the Aguila with two of our VI, Emma and Jo! 💚

They had a brilliant time exploring the experience, which was a fantastic opportunity to take in all the different sights, sounds and textures.💚

It was great to see them enjoying such a sensory and immersive experience together. 💚

Thanks to the Aguila team for making it such an enjoyable visit!

A huge congratulations to Grant, Holly, Gareth and Ste, who have been selected to represent Great Britain at the World Cup in Tuscany, Italy, next week! 🇬🇧🇮🇹

The tournament gets underway next Wednesday and runs through to Saturday, and we couldn’t be prouder to see four members of our HVS community representing GB on the international stage.

Good luck to Grant, Holly, Gareth, Ste and the whole GB squad! 👏

We’ll be cheering you on all the way! 💙

🎉 We’ve been shortlisted!

We’re delighted to share that Hartlepool Vision Support has been shortlisted for the Partnership Award at the 2026 Visionary Awards! 🏆

It’s fantastic to see our work and the partnerships we’ve built within our community recognised alongside so many organisations supporting blind and partially sighted people.

A huge thank you to everyone who supports us and helps make the work we do possible. 💚

The winner will be announced at the Visionary Annual Awards Dinner on Wednesday 23 September.
