More people showed up. More people spoke up.

Before the election, we launched our campaign alongside Hartlepool Community Trust, Hartlepool Opportunities Partnership - HOP, Hartlepool Foodbank CIO, Voices Of Hartlepool and other stakeholders/residents to encourage people in Hartlepool to get to know their local candidates, use their voice, and take part in local democracy.

And something changed.

Hartlepool’s local election turnout increased from 24.20% in 2023 to 35.25% this year. That is an increase of over 10%.

Some wards saw particularly high turnout, with Fens & Greatham reaching 45.19%, followed closely by Rural West at 43.24% and Seaton at 42.99%. Manor House had the lowest turnout at 26.31%.

We want to know why.

What made more people head to the polling stations this time? What motivated you to use your voice and vote?

Whether it was hope, frustration, change, community, local issues, or something else entirely, we’d love to hear your thoughts.

Your feedback will help shape future campaigns encouraging more people to vote, regardless of who they vote for.

Please keep the conversation respectful and open to different experiences and opinions.

Matthew has been a fantastic help the last few weeks, and our eco club are looking forward to all of the creative activities and knowledge he has to offer- everyone go and give him a follow 🙌🏼😄

Popped down to the community garden for a few hours today to tidy up and give the plants and veg a good feed while the kids were keeping dry. Always nice to keep things ticking over for everyone and I finally got to break in the new Sycamore Gardening workwear too!

Donations for the garden are always welcomed! Voices Of Hartlepool

Last week in our community garden, we were joined by Sycamore Gardening for a brilliant afternoon of learning and planting 🌱

Matthew tested the pH balance of our soil (all good!), checked the health of our garden, and gave us lots of helpful advice as we continue growing potatoes, onions, beetroot, peas, carrots, herbs, and other plants in the space.

The children also got creative making fat balls to take home for the birds 🐦

Alongside a general tidy up, we planted even more flowers and plants kindly donated by members of the community. It’s amazing to see the garden continue to grow with everyone’s support.

🌱 Donations Wanted for Our Community Garden 🌱

Our Eco Club at West View Advice and Resource Centre have been working incredibly hard in the garden recently, planting tomatoes, carrots, potatoes, and onions for the community to enjoy.

Now we’d love to add some more colour to the space 🌸

We are looking for donations of flowers, plants, and perennials of all shapes, sizes, and colours. The children would absolutely love to help plant them and watch the garden bloom over the coming months. The more colour the better!

If you have any spare plants, cuttings, or flowers you would be happy to donate, we’d really appreciate it! Anyone who donates is warmly invited to come and visit the garden, and our Eco Club will send you a personal thank you message for supporting them
💚

Please feel free to message the page if you would like more information or could spare any donations and thanks again!!! West View Primary School West View Advice and Resource Centre Thrive Teesside West View Baptist Church Hartlepool

Are you voting in the local elections this year on Thursday 7 May?
We’d like to hear from people in Hartlepool about what is shaping your decision this year.

Are you planning to vote? If so, what matters most to you this time around?

If you’re not planning to vote, we’d also like to understand why. Many people feel their vote does not count or that their voice is not listened to, and that matters too.

Do you know your Ward Councillor candidates?

If you feel comfortable sharing, tell us which local issues are influencing your thinking, or what you would like candidates to be talking about.

Please keep the conversation respectful. We want to hear different views and experiences.
