🐾 FIREWORKS ARE STARTING 🐾
Fireworks can pose a far greater danger to cats than fear alone. Cats have been deliberately injured and killed with fireworks, with attacks reported locally and nationally. This is one of the reasons we ask that all cats adopted from us are kept indoors only.
As Mischief Night and Bonfire Night approach, if your cats are outdoors please bring them indoors before dark and keep them safely inside. Make sure everyone in your household — especially children — understands why they mustn’t let them out, even if they’re asking to go.
Before the bangs start:
• Bring your cats indoors before dark — don’t wait until fireworks have started.
• Shut windows and secure cat flaps for outdoor access cats, and take care when opening outside doors.
• Close the curtains and give them a comfortable hiding place. Familiar TV or radio sounds can help soften the noise.
• If your cat is nervous, a cat pheromone diffuser such as Feliway may help. Start using it ahead of the fireworks, following the product instructions.
If they hide, let them. Stay calm, don’t drag them out, and offer comfort if they come to you.
Check that their microchip details have your current phone number even for normally indoor cats - you never know !
If your cat gets particularly distressed by fireworks, speak to your vet before the night as they can prescribe medications that can help.
Keep these precautions in place throughout the fireworks period, not just on 5 November. One frightened dash through an open door is all it takes ❤️
