Meet the newest member of the8th, Rory! He certainly arrived much sooner than expected, but he is fit and healthy, and as you can see, enjoying lots of sleep at home with Mam and Dad. I am sure you will join us in congratulating Chelsea, and Hoff, on their wonderful news. Welcome to the8th, Rory!

Nobody quite does Halloween like the Boys at The 8th! 🎃👻

A Halloween games night for all sections was a well deserved reward after a great term with all sections learning much in their Badgework sessions.

Anchors started their night with a game of “Hockey Numbers” taking it in turns to verse each other in singles or duos 🏑🥅! They then had a fantastic game of “Night at the Museum” with everyone dressed up in spooky outfits, the security guards had to be extra vigilant to make sure the statues weren’t moving around 🔦. Finally they finished their night with a game of “Dodgeball”.

Junior Section also had a Halloween themed evening with their night starting with a game of “Zombie Dodgeball” - different to regular dodgeball, instead of being out when hit with a ball they would lose a limb until they had no arms or legs left to play 🧟‍♂️. We then had a game of “Mr Wolf” 🐺 turning the lights on and off in a game of stealth to reach Mr Wolf before he spots you moving.

Company and Seniors night was action packed with all sorts of Halloween themed games, along with fantastic costumes including a Sky Sports Presenter, the famous Timelord “The Doctor” and even “Boys Brigade Camp Norman” made an appearance. On the agenda for our older lads was; Eating Donuts off String, Apple Bobbing and Pumpkin Carving.

We are not on next week due to Half Term but we’ll see you all back on the 6th November!

Busy busy busy at The 8th last night!

Anchors and Juniors started their night with a game of Hide and Seek 🫣 after last week’s Star of the Week gave the wheel of games a big spin and it landed on a this fan favourite.

Anchors then moved onto ‘Tongue Murder’ 👅 with a brilliant detective looking to find our sneaky murders we saw some really good detective work 🕵🏻‍♂️. We then moved onto ‘Keeper of the Keys’ for our Badgework and discussing the importance of listening skills 👂. Finally we finished with a game of dodgeball.

Junior Section joined the anchors with a game of Hide and Seek at the start of the night before going into their Badgework of ‘Skittlefootball’ 🎳 learning about how cooperation can help the team as a whole. They then rejoined the anchors to finish with Dodgeball.

Upstairs Company and Seniors started their night with a game of ‘Chaos’ but instead of using two or three balls we decided to use nine ….the result? Chaos! 🤷🏻‍♂️. For Badgework we tried inventive new versions of dodgeball and ‘Pirate Dodgeball’ became a new popular spin with players “walking the plank” at intervals of the game.

Another fantastic night at the8th. It was a very busy one, and focused on 'getting active', teamwork, and most importantly, having fun.

Anchors played three of their favourite games, shark attack, traffic lights and stuck in the mud. Yes, many of you will recognise some of these as old favourites from years ago - the oldies are still popular.

Juniors headed upstairs and started their night with Skittle Ball, where teams needed to work together to defend their own skittle. They then developed some teamwork skills in passing a ball around the hall using a few lengths of guttering. (We must remember to put them back on the roof 😄)

Company & Seniors began their night with a game of 'hockey lives' where each player defends their own goal from the rest of the group.
The chaos of that game was replaced by a game of Chaos! A definite favourite game of solo dodgeball that is incredibly fast-paced and, well, yes, chaos.

After a quick help with some housekeeping for the building, they finished with some freetime, where they get to choose the activities they take part in to end the night.

Another busy and happy night at the8th, and we still have a couple more to go before half term!

A bit of admin... we know that some people are waiting for uniform items to arrive - we hope they will be with us this week. Also a reminder that we need your updated annual consent form and membership fees. If we dont have them yet, please can you have a look at this as soon as you can. Thanks.

Happy Birthday to us!
It is 143 years since the BB started in Glasgow, and 143 years on, the8th continues to grow, with new members joining each week this session.

More new members as The 8th keeps growing!

Anchors started with shark attack 🏝️🦈 keeping safe on desert islands from the hungry sharks. Then moved over to Football Numbers taking it in turns to play a 1 v 1 game of football and score a goal to win ⚽️. Anchors then headed to the training room for their Badgework of celery painting fish on paper plates, some fantastic looking fish! Then finished with a game of dodgeball!

Junior section started their night with their Badgework playing a game of “Hockey Lives” 🏑 usually they would usually have 4 or 5 lives to stay in the game but we reduced this to only 2 lives encouraging them to communicate with the players in the goals 🥅 next to them about about a truce, showing the importance of making friends or at least getting along with people you usually wouldn’t. We then had a game of “Skittleball” before joining a big group game of Dodgeball with the Anchors.

Company and Seniors started their night with “The Mars Bar” game. Sitting in a circle and rolling a nice the person who rolls a 6 is then allowed to begin eating a Mars bar with a knife and fork until the next person rolls a 6 and then they have to swap 🍫. They then moved on to two different variants of dodgeball, the first survival dodgeball - protecting one key member as they try to achieve objectives with them being kit by the ball and then “Lister-Dodgeball” named after our very own Jack meaning if you were hit by the ball you would lose a limb but keep playing until you had no arms or legs left 🤕. Company Badgework was learning all about the different ages in the UK you could; work a part time job, learn to drive etc. Senior Badgework discussed the upcoming social media ban for under 16s and why it was being put in place 📱.

A brilliant night last night at The 8th

Anchors and Juniors started their night with a game of “Hide and Seek” 🫣 after last week’s star of the week spun the wheel of games and it landed on hide and seek it was the game we played first this week! We saw some brilliant hiding places and superb seeking from everyone.

We then split off to complete our different badgeworks. Anchors had a sensory badgework that involved feeling and smelling unusual items from mystery boxes whilst wearing blindfolds. We then discussed how people who are blind use other senses such as touch 🖐️, hearing 👂, smell 👃🏻, and taste! Junior Section discussed the vegetables and fruits that we grow in the UK and the ones we have to import from other countries. Some fantastic debates over where Wasabi is grown! Both sections then ended with a group game of dodgeball!

Upstairs Company and Seniors started their night with a game of ‘Football Skittle Corner’ taking it in turns to knock over the skittles with a football in four different teams before starting their Badgework. Company had a True & False of laws for people under the age of 18 - including questions about Bikes on paths and littering. Seniors had their first game of ‘Werewolf’ of the new session as their Badgework.
