We are funded with the help of North Yorkshire Social Services and private donations.

Supporting Older People
is a registered charity based in the Harrogate District and is administered by three part-time members of staff and a Board of Trustees.

🍽️ ANOTHER DELICIOUS ROAST & RENDEZVOUS! ❤️

Ten of our members enjoyed another lovely get-together at Harcourt Gardens care home on Wednesday, sharing good food and even better company!

On the menu this time was a delicious roast beef dinner, followed by a choice of carrot cake or coffee cake with cream. We’re not sure what sounds better, the roast or the pudding!

A huge thank you to Harcourt Gardens for welcoming us and helping make these occasions so special for our members. We always love seeing everyone come together over a lovely meal! ❤️

🎅🎄 CHRISTMAS ELVES NEEDED! 🎄🎅

We’re getting ready for Christmas at Supporting Older People, and we need a little help from our community to make the magic happen! ❤️

Every year, we put together Christmas presents for our members, filled with lovely little treats to make the festive season extra special. This year, we’re looking for two types of Christmas elves to help us spread some festive cheer! 🎁

We’re looking for donations of small gifts and festive treats to fill our Christmas presents. Whether you’re a local business, community group, family or individual, every little donation makes a difference!

We also need volunteers to help deliver our Christmas presents to our members! If you have a little time to spare and would be happy to help spread some Christmas cheer, we’d love to hear from you.

💚 Small tokens can make a big difference!

We’re delighted that Supporting Older People has been chosen for the Waitrose Community Matters Green Token Scheme at Waitrose Harrogate!

Next time you’re shopping, please collect your green token at the checkout and pop it into the stand for SOP as you leave the store. 🛒

Could someone in your business spare a couple of hours to make a real difference?

Supporting Older People is looking for a few more volunteer drivers to help older people get to its monthly Tea & Talk at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate.

Around 45–50 older people attend each month for tea, cake, conversation and company. But for some, getting there can be a challenge.

That’s where our volunteer drivers come in.

🚗 Pick up one or more older people from their homes around 1.15–1.30pm
�☕ Bring them to the Crown Hotel for the 2pm start�
🏠 Take them home again around 3.30pm

There’s no commitment to do it every month. SOP contacts its pool of drivers around a week before each event, so you simply help when you’re available.

We’d love local businesses to share this opportunity with staff, retired colleagues, customers, friends and family who might be able to help.

Sometimes, a couple of hours is all it takes to help someone get out, see friends and enjoy an afternoon they’ve been looking forward to.

What can two hours really mean? ❤️

For you, it might be a short drive across Harrogate.
For someone else, it could mean getting out of the house, seeing friends, enjoying a cup of tea and cake, and having an afternoon to look forward to.

Supporting Older People is looking for a few more volunteer drivers to help older people get to its monthly Tea & Talk at the Crown Hotel in Harrogate.

🍽️ Roast & Rendezvous at Harcourt Gardens ❤️

We were delighted to launch Roast & Rendezvous at Harcourt Gardens, welcoming members of Supporting Older People for a lovely afternoon of good food and even better company.

There was a delicious roast dinner (with w**e, of course! 🍷), followed by a rather tempting chocolate brownie for dessert.

Roast & Rendezvous will take place on the last Wednesday of every month, giving people the chance to enjoy a meal, meet others and spend some time together.
